Very good special team player, that never got the opportunity to play. Great size 6' 5", and IMO, has more upside than Wallace Wright as a Receiver, not that I want want Wallace cut, no way. Just something to think about, worth a late rd pick. Never can have too many good ST players and could contribute. BTW, AJ SMITH, Chargers GM, always comes across as an ass. GM Smith confirms trying to deal Osgood By Kevin Acee Friday, March 20, 2009 Kassim Osgood, a two-time Pro Bowler on special teams, has made it clear he's unhappy with not getting a chance to play more at receiver. Kassim Osgood is getting his wish a year later. The Chargers put Osgood on the trading block more than two weeks ago, hoping to get a late-round pick for the special teams standout and erstwhile receiver. “You would be correct, sir,” Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith said when asked if Osgood was officially available for trade. Osgood, a Pro Bowler as a special teamer following the 2006 and '07 seasons, has been dissatisfied with his lack of playing time as a receiver for a few years. Last March, he publicly voiced his desire to be traded. He then skipped the team's offseason workout program. In November, Osgood slammed head coach Norv Turner in a television interview. Smith had said last March that Osgood would remain in San Diego for the duration of the $3.45 million contract he signed before the 2006 season. Asked why Osgood was being shopped now, Smith declined to elaborate. “I've answered your question and I don't have anything more to add,” Smith said. “If there are any developments regarding Kassim and a trade we'll let you know immediately.” Sources said the price being thrown around the league is a fourth-round draft pick, but the Chargers would likely accept a fifth-or maybe even a sixth-rounder. They likely would recoup a sixth-or seventh-round compensatory pick should Osgood leave as a free agent after 2009. All 31 other NFL teams and Osgood's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who is working to broker a deal, were notified of Osgood's availability Feb. 28. Sources said there has been no interest in the six-year pro. Osgood, who will be 29 in May, has 32 career receptions but just four in the past four seasons. He did not catch any passes in 2008. A San Diego State alumnus, Osgood is extremely popular and active in the community. He started 12 games his first three seasons but none the past three.
We dont have enough WRs that are ST aces? Osgood will fit in good with some team and be productive, but not on the Jets. We need a serious upgrade at the WR position, not someone who is an excellent gunner and mediocre receiver. Smith and Wallace already fill that need, if that.
I never said he was going to be our #1 receiver....give me some credit. How can you call him medicore, has hardly been given the chance to play, he would be a big upgrade over Smith, he sucks at WR, who I expect to be cut this year.
