I know hindsight is 20/20 but let me just vent for a little bit. One i really dont care that sum of totally agree with what the fo is doing right now beacause i have my own mind and my own opinion, and maybe they know sumthing idk but REALLY??. Cotchery >>> Mason Edwards >>> Burress 500k more than Edwards who is only 28 years old, who wanted to DESPERATELY come back here and was willing to give us a discount, vs. Burress who just got out of prison and is 34 years old. All this hype over a guy who has never made the pro bowl vs. Braylon who was arguably the best wr in the league in 2007. Cotchery the definition of a JET not spectacular just gets the job done, yes he had a down year but was put into a new role being option #3 vs. Derrick Mason is 37 years old, hands only getting worse. Seriously what are we trying to get older, chemistry should have played a bigger factor than it obviously has played so far. Especially with this lockout, i promise it will prove to be a big factor this season. Sanchez is in his critical 3rd season as a Jet. Y are we fucking with chemistry, there were already enough new pieces the last couple of seasons, but now where adding new old pieces. I dont get it i really dont if it were about the money i would understand. Are these moves about resigning Sean Ellis and another FA?? Who else is out there, i seriously doubt the longest tenured jet currently in Eliis goes to the Patriots for a little extra money. Again dont mind me just venting
Thanx for the feedback bro Another great comment by mr I have nothin better than to do with my life then to make fun of other jets fans on this board
What do you expect any of us to say about this? I don't care if Jerricho Cotchery was one of your favorite players. That doesn't matter. He wanted to leave. He requested his release and the Jets did him a favor because he's earned that respect from this franchise. Derrick Mason would be a hell of a stop gap option for us. He was run out of Baltimore - a team that he's done nothing but great things for. Our receiving corps will be rebuilt in 2012. I have no problem with the moves that our front office has made. We can't fix everything in one off-season...that's impossible. This team is being built for the long haul - we're going to be a contender for quite some time. Your little rant is dumb as hell. I could critique it up and down, but I've already done that in the fifty other threads about the recent moves that have been made. If you want some fucking feedback, look in the other threads where myself and other quality posters have weighed in on this situation that you're bitching about.
i think there's def. more potential with plax & mason but you can't deny what braylon & cotch did for us last year! can't fix the fact that j-co wanted out & braylon settled for 3.5 w/ the 9'ers after the market showed him no love. i don't know how he would of came back when we gave up his number already too haha.
Again wasn't looking for any feedback, and honestly I don't really have as much time as u do as to read each and every thread on here, I can give a fuck who and how manh people respond to my thread I really don't care. What makes u the judge in who's a quality poster, electric u know ur shit I'll give u that but really idk who made ur life a living hell wen u were a kid but u come off as a sarcastic ass most of the time in this board, half of ur comments aren't necessary. If u didn't think this was thread worthy why post in it. Trust me this board would go alone smoothly if u didn't happen to comment in every thread. Dont bother commenting back I'm goin to sleep cuz I have shit to do in the morning, other than comment on this board all fucking day, let this thread die since u don't like it so much.
Well, usually when someone asks the question "really??" they want a little feedback, so I gave you the feedback that this thread deserved. In my opinion, a thread should not be created unless it has a point. This lacks a point and you clearly have no idea what's going on with the whole Cotchery situation. We did not cut him just to sign Derrick Mason. We cut him because he asked to be let go.
This has all been addressed in several different threads, but you decided your vent was special enough for its own, so why not? 1) Edwards was not 'desperately' trying to get back to the team. In fact, he never said what kind of discount he'd play for. Here's a quote, in fact, from the article about his offer to give a discount. This came when it was mentioned that the Jets wanted to bring him back: Make no mistake. He wanted his money. It was reported today that he would never have signed with the Jets for the amount the 49ers gave him. He was offended that the Jets didn't consider him on par with Holmes and want to pay him as such. 2) Derrick Mason's hands have shown no signs of getting worse. Cotchery, on the other hand, had a terrible season of drops. For someone who is "the definition of a JET", he's also wanted to get out of town since last season. 3) Check Football Outsiders' analysis of the chemistry between Cotchery and Sanchez. It wasn't good. Again, though, it's irrelevant since Cotchery refused to accept his role on the team and instead asked to be released or traded. 4) The team is making an effort to get younger. Two young receivers were drafted this year, and more signed as UDFAs. They evaluated the best mid-level UFAs, but neither one was really a solid addition to the team. Rather than commit multi-year money to an average #2, they opted for a stopgap; perhaps two. Why? So that the money clears off when they draft a #2 next season. That will give the Jets 3-4 years of a young WR corps just as Sanchez enters into his prime. The timing is fantastic. Meanwhile, they used this offseason to build other parts of the base, positions at which we had quality FAs who could be had for a fair price. 5) You don't get it because you don't want to get it. You don't want to think that Cotchery could want anything but to be a Jet. Truth be told, he wanted to be a starter and be paid more than he wanted to be a Jet. It's really not a sign of disloyalty from him, but people don't want to believe it. They'd rather hate and blame the FO when it looks like the truth is much more complicated than that.
I can't believe people don't think Derrick Mason is an upgrade. Some of the surest hand and one of the most statistically reliable receivers in the game. 1,000+ receiving yards year after year after year. Essentially a #1 receiver we'll have playing in the slot.
1 point I think we can all agree on is that 3.5 M for Braylon would have been awesome. Why couldn't we get this done instead or maybe in addition to Plax.
Probably because, as much as I like the guy, he's a suspension waiting to happen. He can't stay out of trouble and he was asking more than 3.5 from us. The bonus of being in San Francisco is that he'll be the #1 receiver there, and he wouldn't be here. I don't think he wanted to come back either, unfortunately.
Since you don't have time to read the board or check responses to threads I assume it won't offend anyone if I take a gigantic shit in this thread.
If Edwards was OK to sign with the Jets for the same amount he agreed with the 9ers, it's a shame we didn't. But if he expected the same salary than Holmes, I fully understand why we declined. And as regards Mason, it is difficult to have an opinion about the deal as it has not already been communicated or maybe even signed...
There is no deal with Mason. An offer was made and he is mulling it over. The Jets appear to be 10 mil under the cap, they will find somebody else if he doesn't accept it.
Ryan said on Wednesday that Edwards could come back for what the Jets could afford. They could have afforded 3.5 million and he went to San Francisco instead. Your premise that he wanted to play for the Jets is total bull shit.
Rex Ryan and Mike T. and Brian Shotty know what they are doing. If Shottenheimer absolutely wanted Braylon back Mr. T. would of got him. If Shottenheimer thought Cotchery was a starter and absolutely did'nt want to let him go then they would'nt have let him go. The Jets know what they had with those players and they let them go - so it tells me that the Jets were'nt all too happy with those players and they think they can do better.
1. Braylon might end up in jail. 2. Cotch wanted out. 3. Mason is better than a disgruntled Cotch. 4. Burress is better than an imprisoned Braylon.
It's not fair to compare the $$ going to Edwards in SF and assume that he would've signed for the Jets at the same amount. The timing between Plaxico's deal & Braylon's deal is a huge factor. When the Jets needed to lockdown a #2 receiver, Edwards was not signing 1 year/$3.5 Million.
Cotch-Mason is still up in the air. However, Burress at his worst will likely be equal to Braylon last year. In fact, if he even returns to something like his old form, it will be the steal of the off-season.
