Assume we will pick a QB in the upcoming draft. What are some realistic FA's you think Jets should target? Let's leave potential Franchise Tag players out of our scope
There are a lot of very good wide receivers who should be hitting free agency this offseason. We have to think the Jets will add one of them. If I had to guess, I'd say the most likely signing is Corey Davis or Kenny Golladay. Neither is worthy of a franchise tag, but both are very good, borderline #1 WR's. In addition, I think the Jets press hard for either Scherff or Thuney. Outside of that, we're likely to see small, low-risk, high-reward type signings. A guy like Matt Judon comes to mind if Baltimore lets him walk. Edit: Huh, seeing ~16mil per year as market rate for Judon, so maybe out of the question. Reminds me a bit of Za'Darius Smith a few years back.
A very much underused WR at KC Demarcus Robinson, capable of big days like his 6 for 172 and 2 td performance. Capable of being a WR2 imo https://www.nfl.com/players/demarcus-robinson/stats/
I think you'd need to break the bank to get Golladay away from the Lions, they have almost no receivers on contract for next year and Golladay and Stafford have worked well together, He's more valuable to the Lions than the Jets.
ARob is my first target, but I’d like Corey Davis. He’s a bigger target and is finally healthy. Has enough speed to get downfield and is a very willing blocker.
I would keep an eye out for Chris Godwin or Juju Smith Schusyer. Juju will be a free agent next year and now that Pitt has D Johnson and Claypool, I can easily see him hitting the open market. Also I would think someone like Sammy Watkins or even Will Fuller as another addition. Would not be a #1 WR but would compliment a new corps nicely.
Golladay, Davis or Godwin. All 3 are capable #1's. Buyer beware on Smith Schuster. Think he's more a product of a good system and lots of talent around him.
I like Allen Robinson, a lot. He's a true number 1, X, outside the numbers type receiver. I think he would be the perfect compliment with Mims on the other side and Crowder in the slot.
They definitely need a replacement for Perriman and Van Roten at the very least. Defensively need corners and pass rush as usual.
I think the big 2 targets should be one of the top IOLs (Thuney/Scherff) and one of the potential 4 top tier WRs (in order of preference, ARob, Godwin, Golladay, JuJu). A sleeper pick that I think falls in line with JD’s MO is Haason Reddick. Arizona converted him to EDGE this year after starting his career as an ILB. Reddick finished with 12.5 sacks this season. If he were to shake loose, he seems like the low-risk/high-upside type of guy that JD likes to go after in FA.
Is Thuney a Douglas type signing? I'm not sure. I think he will back his ability to draft or sign a mid-tier FA interior lineman, even though it hasn't worked out so far. Signing top tier skill positions might be more the route he will go down.
Seems like I read somewhere that JD was ready to back up the Brinks truck for Thuney last year before the Pats tagged him. I can’t imagine his stance on him would change after another very good year for him.
This on repeat. If arob can’t be had, i will gladly take Godwin. We have neglected offense skill positions for years. And don’t give me the “oh we tools mims last year”. Lets get a legit stud to help the young QB .
good pass rushers are never shaking loose from other teams--but I do think CB is very real free agent target
