Given the Baltimore connection if the Jets hire Rex Ryan, how about signing Chris McAllister, the former all-pro CB who will probably be cut by the Ravens this offseson? They're pretty much set at CB now with Samari Rolle and Fabian Washington, and the only way they keep McAllister is if he takes a significant pay cut. He's had injury problems, but probably has a lot left in the tank and would be a solid fit alongside Darrelle Revis.

Will we have the cap space? He's gonna command a lot in base salary unless his contract is front loaded with a huge signing bonus

I offer my right nut to the New York Jets in exchange for signing Chris McAlister.

McAlister, Scott and especially Suggs - I'd like them all and I wouldn't be surprised if one of them were brought in if only to help the transition to his scheme.

too bad we couldn't draft a top rookie like that lowery kid or bring in a true all pro like ty law.

  7. McCallister would command big bucks...but pair him w/ Revis and you may have the best cb tandem in football.

If the Jets get Ryan they should sign one of the two free agent safeties. Leonhard or Landry. Landry is restricted but either one would be an upgrade for the Jets.

His cap number for '09 is almost $11 million. We won't be signing anyone with that type of cap hit this year. Granted his contract would change if he were cut (i think) but I doubt he's taking a huge pay cut to follow Ryan if we get him. Someone will pay him.

For 11 million we might as well go get Nnamdi Asomouga for goodness sakes!

if Mccalister gets cut, he will not be commanding that kind of cash anymore. granted I would much rather have Bart Scott than Mccalister, when we actually had a pass rush earlier in the year, our secondary was solid, and our linebackers just couldnt cover the TE. Scott can cover the TE.

however bringing in one of their FA safeties (Landry or Leonhard) Would be a great way to improve our secondary. Leonhard is more likely, no draft picks to give up, would come cheaper, and would allow us to make other signings.

Jees whats wrong Baltimore's Front Office? This is what 5 integral defensive pieces whose contract expires this year?

Bart Scott, Ray Lewis, Terrel Suggs, Laron Landry, and Jim Leonhard? Granted Leonhard was a role player (all be it a damn good one) till Landry got hurt. but still wouldnt you think they would have attempted to re-do somebody's contract last offseason?

    A few Baltimore FA:

    Jason Brown, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
A fourth round selection in ?05 for the Ravens, Brown played in all sixteen games in ?06, starting in twelve of those appearances, and has started each game during the past two seasons. He is a quick guard who can also play center in a pinch. Rookie quarterback Joe Flacco benefited from the protection he was afforded by the likes of Brown. Baltimore?s offense is asked to complement one of the league?s best defensive units and Brown?s stability on the line has been critical. Whichever team winds up signing Brown will be adding security at a guard spot.

    Ray Lewis, UFA, Baltimore Ravens
With over 1,600 tackles, 33.5 sacks, and 28 interceptions during his 13 seasons, Lewis isn?t just a Pro Bowl player and Super Bowl winner, but also a future Hall of Fame inductee. Since entering the league, Lewis has been a force and helped the Ravens to be one of the league?s best defensive units year in and year out. He?s been in Baltimore his entire career so it?s hard to imagine him with another franchise; he?s the face of the franchise. The Ravens will make him an offer that should lock him up until almost the end of his career and rumor has it that he is close to signing an extension.

    Terrell Suggs, UFA, Baltimore Ravens
Being a linebacker that also works at defensive end has helped Suggs become an end that can track the ball above average. In his first six NFL seasons, Suggs has made 368 total tackles and earned 53 sacks. Suggs may not be as rewarded as Peppers or Haynesworth will be in free agency, but he will certainly be pursued by a number of teams who want to save a little money and still come away with a quality defensive end. Baltimore is constantly pumping out quality defensive players, so they may not be willing to match a big offer if one comes along, but they will miss Suggs if they lose him.

    Bart Scott, UFA, Baltimore Ravens
Even though Scott was originally an undrafted free agent, he has managed to become a quality linebacker. While he has benefited from playing alongside Pro Bowlers like Ray Lewis, he has also helped them benefit from his own contributions. He had just one sack last season as the Ravens defense struggled more than usual, and only 1.5 this season, but he showed in ?06 that he is capable of over 100 tackles and 9.5 sacks when he puts it all together. The Ravens will probably pay Scott enough to keep him around, but they may let him go if they are unimpressed with his play this year and are content pursuing Lewis and Suggs.

    Dawan Landry, RFA, Baltimore Ravens
It is difficult to imagine that the Ravens would let Landry get away considering he is young and showed major potential during his first two seasons in the NFL. Landry, a safety, made a significant impact in his first year when he made 69 tackles and had five interceptions as well as three sacks. While his sacks and interceptions dropped in year two, he tallied 83 tackles, still making plays on the ball but just not coming up with turnovers. He was placed on injured reserve for this season after playing in just two games this year. Landry is athletic and finds the ball well. It?s a safe bet that Baltimore wants to keep him around through his prime.

STOP. We tried being the Patriots and it failed. We are NOT about to try being the Ravens. Coach OUR players, not carry overs.

Well....this is all on the assumption we hire Rex....but, we need to fill some holes (we need a bonafide pass rusher and help in the secondary). And the Ravens D would be a great place to extract players to fill some of these holes......

There's no reason why we can't coach our current players....while getting some stellar FA's from the Ravens. At the very least, the transition would be easier.

good point about Landry. Another reason to go after Leonhard instead. Also can't believe I just did that. Laron plays in Washington. Have absolutely no idea how i messed that up.

On those stating we need to coach our own players, we do! but you cannot fill every hole through the draft, you need to bring in some FA's. Besides one of the big knocks, if not the Biggest knock on Rex is he is a product of his talent, not vice-versa. So let's bring some of his talent along with him! essentially weakening or nullifying the argument all together.

I would love for us to sneak away from this offseason with Jim Leonhard, and Bart Scott. Whether or not we bring in Rex Ryan. They are good players, and would easily make us a better football team.
