Wow...how time flies...I wasn't even aware David was coming up on the last year in his contract.

Now I know why Idzik saved so much cap money...Wilkerson, Kerley an Harris... Both Wilkerson and Kerley deserve to get PAID...Wilkerson more so than Kerley but nonetheless.

But I digress... Do you think we should re-sign David Harris?

No, I don't think they should unless they can get him for a song. His skills have noticably declined over the years, and I never thought he was all that great to begin with. He's average to below average in pass coverage, not very fast, tackles well but isn't great at getting off blocks. I don't think it would be all that hard to replace him, tbh.

I would sign him but only for a very Jet friendly contract, he's getting close to the end of his career IMO.

Maybe to a Calvin Pace type deal, nothing more IMO

I can see him being one of the guys we let go in hopes to pick up a comp pick. I wouldn't mind keeping him for a reasonable price though.

Yeah, David Harris is a beast. Anyone, that doesn't see that "doesn't know football". He is the captain of the D and he hits like a freight truck. Also, he's no dummy.

Hit Man! with a wrecking ball for a head! BEAST!

I hope he ends his career with the Jets. He's been good and has consistently given us 100+ tackles every year. What I'd like to see is him getting resigned next offseason to a Pace like contract. And (hopefully) Jeremiah George is ready to step in and start in 2015. Harris can be a backup LB and brought in for certain situations.

    I would think no.

I don't want to wind up in another Mo Lewis/Marvin Jones situation. It's always better to part ways a year early rather than a year late.

I would but not break the bank on him. The guy next to him I haven't been impressed with Demario Davis makes no impact plays and has been a disappointment especially being a 3rd round pick.

No. He's never been that fast, and is getting slower with age. He's paid like he's one of the top 2-3 ILBs in the game and he isn't, not even close. The Jets need youth at the position with sideline-to-sideline speed and who can drop into coverage. I can't believe that 64% of you would. Unreal.

The only way I'd re-sign Harris is for a cheaper backup contract.

Right! Whatever. You post with a cartoon and insult others before they even respond. Nice.

It 100% depends on what happens this season. I'd like to sign him to a 1-2 year deal at the end of the season, preferably just one. It depends on how much other teams value him though.

David Harris is the backbone of our defense. He receives plays from the coordinator and makes the calls at the line of scrimmage. He also knocks the snot out of anyone with his football. He's a solid aging vet, good to have around a young developing team. I hope we can keep him, apologies for hurting your feelings ;)

I realized I forgot to vote....

I voted No. I understand that he calls the plays etc...but we can groom someone this year to do the same next. Unless he signs a VERY Jet friendly deal then it's time for him to walk. Time for some new blood and speed in the middle.

Your allowed to be impressed with who you like, but being as Davis is entering his third year I would say he has shown plenty already. I expect Davis to explode this year and over take Harris as the top tackler/playmaker from the linebacker position.

That said I think that Harris should be brought back, but as others have stated I wouldn't expect or want him on a big money deal.

Definitely all in for signing him. He already got his huge contract from us, he should be willing to take less. His production has been very steady for us, and I don't see him tapering off anytime soon.

You didn't hurt my feelings. Was just pointing out your immaturity.

Harris has been a nice player, but he's nowhere near the backbone of our defense imo. He's never been a topnotch performer. He can't cover, he misses a lot of plays because of his lack of footspeed, has missed his share of tackles, and isn't much use as a blitzer. IMO the best role he could take on this team is perhaps as a mentor to the younger players and taking on Bart Scott's role of filling gaps and taking on any lead FBs or OGs, and leave Davis free to make plays.

While I think Harris makes more plays than he misses, I do feel like its his turn to play "lead blocker" for Davis.

At the right price. He's always been an overrated player though.
