"... I guess coach-to-signalcaller on defense. The ability to verbally send those in, it's going to be interesting to see how that works because it'll be an adjustment. It'll change two-minute drives. It'll change a lot of things. " What possible scenarioes can you folks think of where and how two minute drives will change?
You will be able to talk with the defense, albeit very randomly and sporatically, but you will still be able to speak about what is going on. Instead of just sending hand signals. May not change much, but it will be different than just the MLB or Safety calling plays, or calling a specific defense for an entire 2 minute drill.
by defenses now not being on there heels so much, the calls will come in a lot faster, so the 2 minute offense wont cant defenses off balance as much now
Telling a defense what to watch for on the fly rather than during on offensive series when the D is sitting down will make a big difference. Adjustments will be so fast the scoring end of games and halves will be different.
I liked the MLB call the defense. Now he has to wait for the coach to tell him what to call, hope he understands it and then bark it out before the ball is snapped. I can see this not going well at all. Hopefully, he will still have the chance to call defensive audibles when necessary.
i believe the signal calling for the D is not as specific as the O is. its a few words unlike the Offense which is a different language from mars.
It will make "Field Generals" less important. Expecially agains a no-huddle O Players like Vilma, Ray Lewis or Urlacher take over the D. That will change, because the Coach has now much more influence when the D is on their heels.
I agree on both counts. Do you think Tangini knew that this rule was probably going to pass, which gave them that extra push to trade Vilma when we did?
The biggest difference in my opinion will be the ability to get players off the field when you are trying to change packages against a hurry-up offense. You'll have the middle linebacker screaming at the people who need to get off to get off and it will make for the formerly risky changes that teams would not make for fear of too many men on the field penalties.
Seriously? You think this will make a big difference? I don't think it will affect the two-minute drill all that much...I think Mangini overrate's this. Br4dw4y5ux is right, changing personnel will be the biggest difference..and THAT will affect the 2 minute drill....but the coaches won't be making audibles, since the mike will be shut off before then, so other than personnel changes, the 2 minute will not change much. You might even see teams trying to change personnel more and getting caught with 12 men, or shorthanded, on the snap, only because there will be more opportunities for the offenses to catch them.
<static><static>Pace, what are you <static> doing? You're an outside linebacker<static>PACE!<static> -or- <static>Has anybody seen Brian Thomas?<static>
Hadn't you heard? The Jets shifted from the no-huddle offense last year... they now run the no-offense huddle.
Sup. I am not blind to what you are diagramming but I will go ahead and say it could go both ways. DC's will get creative in their schemes if a team comes out with multiple looks. I am lookin forward to it B. The experiment awaits.
As I think about this more, I think they are only allowed 2 helmets with mikes, yes? Only one can be on the field at a time, I think. This may actually LIMIT what a defense can do, cause you'll have to have 1 of 2 players on the field at all times. I'm sure some players will have 2 helms, one miked and one not....how many times will we see a guy take the field with the wrong helmet?:lol: Overall, I expect minimal impact on the game or the 2-minute drill....I don;t think the average viewer will notice any difference at all.
I liked it when the MLB was vilma and he knew what was going on. Now with inexperienced guys like harris or guys who aren't familiar with the jets u can't let him call that. It's way better in our situation.
Harris didn't play very inexperienced. He became the leader of the D as fast as Vilma did in 04. Harris can call the D, he the 3-4 version of Vilma. it was a great swap. I still hope JV has a great career out in NO though.
