As I was running on the treadmill today, I started thinking about the Week 17 game between the Jets and Dolphins (http://www.nytimes.com/1991/12/23/s...ke-their-season-into-overtime-and-beyond.html). Raul Allegre is one of my all-time favorite Jets and he played for the Jets for 2 weeks. This game was the 1st moment of pure joy that I remember as a Jets fan. Does anyone have any video of this game?
No video, I do remember Ken O'Brien hitting Rob Moore with a long pass or two and Freeman McNeil getting out of bounds with about :02 left on that drive.
I believe we got stopped 2 or 3 times inside the Hou RZ, one was an INT that hit the ground but they never reviewed it. The long pass to Moore was in OT to set up Allegre for the GW, Freeman ran OOB w/ 2 secs left to set up the tying FG.
And that Freeman run was on like a 3rd and 7. Gutsy call and Freeman made some great moves. I went bananas.
I remember the season but not the game. My recall isn't that in depth that far back. Props to you guys who do.
haha, it's funny when I hear people whining about the Jets only making 2 title games the last 3 years. Those people didn't go through the Bruce Coslet era
I don't remember Namath doing that but for some reason I remember Hammond saying "they don't have any time, do they?" w/ the Freeman run. I don't think it was 3rd and 7 but I could be wrong, I think it was gutsy to run in that situation but we had a TO so it wasn't that gutsy.
This one had more of a '93 feel losing the last 3 games but at least in '93 we faced 2 of the SB teams and the hottest team in the league the last 3 weeks.
It's called getting old, but thanks. Definitely, 8-5 to 8-8. As it turns out we played a Super Bowl team this time too, albeit a garbage 9-7 one. Good news is this time the coach didn't get fired.
And if my memory serves me right: 1) I remember Marino calling a timeout right after the third down play (with about :48 left in the game) prior to Miami scoring a go-ahead TD on fourth down. 2) He had plenty of more time that he could have run off the play clock prior to the timeout call. 3) If Marino had waited to call a timeout after letting more of the play clock run out, the Jets wouldn't have had a chance to come back. Junc, am I right, or is my memory totally failing me?
I actually don't recall, I'll have to check the tape. That doesn't sound like a mistake Marino would make.
how would making 2 title games in 3 years be running in place from 20 years ago when we were lucky to make one postseason app at 8-8?
I know. That's why it stands out so well in my memory banks. Of course it could be a figment of my imagination .
I remember like it was yesterday. I even had my Giants fan step-father crooning "Rauuuuuul" ala Werewolves of London with me jumping up and down in the living room. Prolly helped that he used to be his kicker. Good times.
