The home site is reporting the Jets hired Randy to be their Director of Publications and in charge of their website. Good for Randy, sucks for us as I thought he was one of the best beat writers we had. Oh well.... http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show_permalink/jets-hire-veteran-sportswriter Jets Hire Veteran Sportswriter Published: 03-20-07 By Jets PR Department The New York Jets today announced the hiring of sportswriter Randy Lange, formerly of The Record of Bergen County, N.J., as Director of Publications and Editor-in-Chief of the Jets? website, www.NewYorkJets.com. Lange spent the past 13 years covering the team for the Record and also wrote for Jets Confidential, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, CBSSportsLine.com and numerous newspapers across the country. In 2005, Lange authored Stadium Stories: New York Jets published by Globe Pequot Press. ?We are thrilled to announce the addition of Randy Lange to our website and publications team,? said Matthew Higgins, New York Jets? Senior Vice President of Business Operations. ?Randy brings a tremendous reservoir of knowledge about team history, much of which he documented during his impressive career as a sportswriter.? Lange, in addition to his website responsibilities, will oversee Jets? publications, which include the annual Media Guide, the Season Preview Book and Jets? Playbook. "After more than three decades in newspapers, this is going to be different, and it's going to be exciting,? Lange said. ?I know the Jets well and they know me well. This is a great opportunity that has come along at a perfect time, and I'm looking forward to getting started.? The most significant recent addition to NewYorkJets.com is Jets TV ? an online TV channel filled with behind-the-scenes footage, upgraded audio and visual capabilities and the ability to view Jets, press conferences live via streaming video. ?We continue to enhance the functionality and content offerings of NewYorkJets.com to meet the insatiable appetite of fans for real-time information,? Higgins said. ?In 2006, we successfully launched a newly redesigned website that provides robust video offerings, real time reporting of Jets? news, exclusive features such as live broadcasts of Coach Mangini?s daily press conferences and a digital media library with extensive offerings from SportsNet New York. The addition of Randy Lange will provide fans with yet another reason to regularly visit NewYorkJets.com.? Since the April 2006 relaunch, which included a cleaner layout with sortable rosters, interactive depth charts, and a vastly expanded history section, page views have increased 15% and video views have more than doubled.
I hope he dosn't just write homer pieces, he has been one of the best writers around and hopefully we see the same style of writing at the official site.
Well the good news is that Tom Rock from Newsday was pretty damm good last year, in his first year on the job. Lange always seemed to have the inside ear though, but I think it was more apparent during the Edwards regime.
Lange always seemed to be a bit of a mouthpiece for the Jets anyway. Not that that's bad but I always took his stuff with a grain of salt. He is a good writer though. Hopefully now that he actually works for the Jets he can step it up to another level since he WILL be the mouthpiece for the organization.
Hutchinson of the Ledger seems to have the best sources inside Hempstead. Cimini's always beating the SOJ drum - Same Old Jets. Cannnizzaro is a joke. Karen Crouse of the NYT is Coles' psychologist. Tom Rock is still finding his sources in the organization, though I'm not sure why Ken Berger hasn't given him a couple.
God, finally a welcome, refreshing, long overdue change for the official website. Heretofore the articles on the site have been darn-near laughable. Always outdated and never even close to being real time, they used to read like a 10 year-old had written them. I mean, simplistic and (yawn) boring to the point of ridiculousness. In fact, it is so bad over there that I simply stopped going there. It's much easier to read the newspaper or better yet, come here for the latest stuff. Hopefully some of that will change now, but I suspect the Jets F/O will still try to handcuff Lange in much the same way they stiffled whoever else they had before, so afraid of "leaks" that they overdo it and don't allow any information to be published until every Tom, Dick and Harry already knows about it for weeks already.
god, I alqways loved randy lange's chats - I wonder if he'll still do those. I definitely appreciate the upgrade in the team website - I hope there's some inside practice and inside scouting stuff included next year - ya listenin' Randy?
Now if they could hire someone other than a gibbering orangutan to run their multimedia section, the official site might actually be worth bookmarking.
I concur on Hutchinson, he talks pretty slow, but he's pretty good... Hutchinson and Glauber are pretty good at breaking stuff...
Randy Lange now an official NYJ employee, editor of website I didn't see this posted anywhere, but there's an article on the website mentioning that he is the Jets' Director of Publications and the Editor in Chief of the site. www.newyorkjets.com http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show_permalink/jets-hire-veteran-sportswriter
you can see his impact already. nyj site broke some news before other sites this year. which is a 1st.
