    Matthew Stafford-QB- Player Feb. 1 - 12:41 pm et

Beat writer Kent Babb predicts that the Chiefs will take Georgia QB Matthew Stafford with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft.

Babb calls Alabama OT Andre Smith "intriguing" if he gets past Detroit and St. Louis, but believes that KC is still desperate for a franchise QB. Babb says QB is a much bigger need position and taking Stafford is an "easy" decision.

    Michael Johnson-DL- Player Feb. 1 - 12:32 pm et

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock calls Georgia Tech DE Michael Johnson a candidate to "blow up" at February's Combine, but isn't impressed by Johnson's senior-year game film.

Mayock was also disappointed that Johnson opted out of the Senior Bowl. "He probably has as much talent as any kid in the country, but there's a lot of bad tape on him," Mayock said. "I wouldn't be surprised if someone falls in love with him. At 6'7/265, he looks beautiful. I just don't like him on tape."

    Michael Crabtree-WR- Player Feb. 1 - 12:17 pm et

Michael Crabtree reportedly does not plan to run the forty-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

The biggest unknown about Crabtree is his straight-line speed, so backing out of the forty on a level playing field raises question marks. It also indicates that Crabtree hasn't timed well during his pre-draft preparation. Crabtree could always change his mind at the last minute like Calvin Johnson two years ago, but for now he only plans to run at the Texas Tech Pro Day.

    Rey Maualuga-LB- Player Feb. 1 - 11:30 am et

Beat writer Tony Grossi can envision the Browns using the No. 5 overall pick on an inside linebacker.

Grossi specifically names USC's Rey Maualuga as a potential replacement for free agent Andra Davis, but Aaron Curry of Wake Forest will be another consideration. Curry is a much better athlete and pass rusher than Maualuga.

I think unless both the Lions & KC take QB'S we will get Sanchez. I do not think the 9ers will take a QB I think they will let Hill & Smith battle it out.

Georgia QB Matt Stafford has hired Tom Condon as his agent.

Condon gets all the top QBs. Last year, Condon got No. 3 pick Matt Ryan a bigger contract than the two players picked ahead of him. Stafford will use Ryan's $72M deal as a mere starting point if he goes No. 1 overall to Detroit.

I think this suggests Stafford is less likely to go #1. It's just too much money.

Also look for Stafford not to throw at the Combine. Condon never has his guys throw there.

I don't think we will take him even if he is there.

If he does he may not be playing this year.

Sanchez is scary for me as a pick. I wish he had more experience. Somebody will pull the trigger for him, but if I'm the JEts I would make sure to spend that pick on someone who has more background material. One season as a starter is not enough for me.

While it's risky, I think the only position we can afford to make a "risky" pick at, is the QB position, and that being Sanchez. The value would be great and we're in need of him.

He could either sit a year and learn, or he can take his lumps and be baptized by fire behind a pretty good OL and solid running game.

If he drops to us, we have to take him.

I'm not the biggest Sanchez fan but what's the difference between Atlanta last year and us in 2009? If the Falcons can win with a rookie QB I think we could too.

Matt Ryan was a 3-year starter.

Mark Sanchez only started one season.

    There's your difference.

But you can look at Cassell and say that starting experience doesn't necessarily predict a QB's NFL success.

I agree Sanchez is a roll of the dice as he doesn't have the experience you'd want. But at 17, I think it's worth that risk. Someone picking in the Top 5 may not think so, which is understandable. However, IF he turns out to be another good starting NFL QB (USC product), then getting him at 17 is a steal.

If the guy becomes Carson Palmer, it's the steal of the draft.

Sanchez will have to sit for at least a year. But at 17 the $$ are low enough to allow that without crushing the salary cap.

I'm still in favor of a defensive player for our first round pick. But the NFL is a QB league so I wouldn't be that upset if Sanchez were selected. The kid has a great arm and comes from a solid program.

I could not agree more if he had stayed 1 more year we would have no shot in hell to get him.

That's the thing. If he falls to us, it's like his early entry and lack of experience become a blessing in disguise. If he has to sit a year, so what? I'd be willing to take that chance for a possible Franchise QB who would wind up going in the Top 10 the following year.

If Favre hangs it up take that money to fix the D (MLB, Corner & Saftey) then in the draft 1st round Sanchez 2nd round WR.
