I disagree, at least not w/ the 1st pick. Why would we keep Chad, sign or trade for a vet QB AND draft a QB? It doesn't make sense. If they wanted to draft a QB they could have Brooks as the backup rather than waste money on another QB.
Read it in the Newspapers this morning, that they aren't into giving up a pick or picks for Ramsey. I don't feel like looking for it, it was in the Daily News or the Post or Newsday.
Two reasons: 1) Chad's contract is chump change now. He can easily be let go of if he fails to stay healthy and Kitna would be the stop gap. 2) Drafting a QB doesn't mean that the impact must or should be felt immediately. Signing Kitna will enable us to still have a decent starter and buy time for a Cutler, Leinart or Young. At this point... who knows, really.
I see us drafting someone like Charlie Whitehurst in the third. With our first two picks we need help elsewhere if we are going to sign another veteran QB.
This is very true, but if they bring in Kitna, they may elect to get a QB with this year's draft to groom him for the future since Kitna would only be a short term solution. The only problem with drafting a QB this year, is it probably will make Bollinger odd man out because I can't see them carrying 4 QB's on the roster. I actually agree with you 100%. I really question whether it is absolutely necessary to bring in a veteran QB? Bollinger would be OK. With better personnel around him, he could over-achieve. I can't see the Jets requesting private tryouts for Leinart, Young, and Cutler, if they weren't serious about drafting a QB.
I can see them doin that to not let anyone know what they are thinking so they can keep some leverage.
We kept chad becuase we had no choice. If they could have cut him they would have. Kitna + chad does not equal the qb of the future. The jets already have cutlers name written down
It certainly would be a time consuming smoke screen, but clearly not out of the realm of possibility.
exactly. if we decided to get ramsey or kitna and also drafted a qb at #4 that'd be a horrible waste. everything points to trading down. at least with my frame of thought, if i'm wrong so sue me.
Looks like the Jets offered a 7th rounder. Good job. Redskins are desperate no reason to give them anything more.
That's how I look at things, too. Keeping Chad was the smart thing to do financially, and nothing much more then that. He'll be given one more chance to fight for a starting job, but even if he does play and stay healthy, he is still going to be in his 30's very soon. For a team in rebuilding mode, that isn't an ideal sittuation. It's hard to pass up on franchise QB'(s) when you have a chance at them.
