Will we see two RB sets like the Chargers have? Instead of using a fullback? We will have a TON of fresh legs out of the backfield EDIT: Of course if all 4 stay and we still have John Conner.
I doubt it, but we do have Schotty, so I'm sure he'll draw up a 4 running back goaline screen package.
For now, we have to assume that Powell (barring injury) won't be receiving a lot of playing time. Greene should be our go-to back on early downs. LT will be our 3rd down and 2-minute drill back. McKnight should be our change-of-pace back that contributes on special teams (both as a gunner and returner). If Powell has a strong pre-season, I could see him overtaking McKnight as the change-of-pace back. As for whether or not we'll be seeing some 2-back sets? That's up to Schotty.
Rex loves having fresh backs for the last quarter of the regular season/playoffs. On NFL network Charlie Casserly called Powell one of the steals of the draft and thinks he's better than Mcknight as of today. I wasn't susprrised to see us take an RB to be honest..I think LT,Greene and Mcknight have question marks associated with them, and this is an important position for the jets style of play. As for Mcknight, I don't think he's fallen out of favor with the front office, but i do think they have a different vision than they had when he was drafted. His frame and running style(which leads to some ball security issues) does not make him an ideal fit for the ground and pound. Mcknight is best in space where he creates big plays w/ his speed and agility.I think we see him returning both punts and kick offs while schotty finds 5-10 ways a gane to try to get him the ball in space ala Brad Smith. Mcknight is more of an all purpose athlete than he is any specific position.
I think Powell will see a lot of carries. Our "secret" in the playoffs has been that we have running backs not beat up in the playoffs. If LT is still on the team, expect him to be used sparingly and for McKnight to also have a much increased role.
