The McCareins, Dyson and Clarke pink slips were great moves from this suddenly-gutsy FO. Probably a season too late but at least we're on the right track now.
Phase Two means David Barrett needs to go. If you hurry he might still be able to catch a ride. If we're REALLY cleaning house then why wasn't this below-average player the guy holding the door for the aforementioned?
I'm fine with trading Vilma for more bodies. I'm going to church so they can trade Robertson. But if all of these defensive changes ARE taking place, then David Barrett has to be released into the Pit of Despair as well. He sucks, period. Richard Pryor, Michael Jackson, Freddy Krueger, and David Barrett should be the answer to a trivia question somewhere in this universe.
And just for the record, the answer to the first question in this thread is probably in Bob Sutton's mouth as well.

Did you really want us to release two of our CB's? I think it would be hard to find replacements for two CB's AND all of the positions we REALLY need help in such as Oline, WR, Dline, passrushing LB, etc.

They probably kept Barrett to see how they fill their holes in the upcoming months. He could very well be released later this offseason. Patience!

With Dyson gone if we get rid of Barrett then all of a sudden DB is a need for this team. We would have no depth and a greater need for someone like Samuels to play across from DR. Miller is a nickel CB period.

Mangini likes barrett, but i feel that they are going to give Miller a chance to be opposite Revis because of the progress he was reportedly making before the injury. Revis Miller Barrett, Coleman and maybe a drafted player or even a FA signing sometime this offseason. I'd love to pick up Drayton Florence, with him and Revis as 1 and 2- we can hold our 9th ranked secondary and work on improving the run game.

If Miller were healthy and had a decent season I think Barrett would have been cut.

Why does everyone hate Barrett so much? For a guy who operates with no pass rush, he's been pretty decent for us. He's a very good form tackler, he's a league average number two corner, and he's a hard worker. I think Dyson is the only real goat in our secondary.

I think Justin Miller is going to have to get his head in the game. I hope this injury has lead him to re-evaluate his attitude and the way he goes about his business. He's a talented guy, but he has a non-existent attention span and he's a personal foul waiting to happen. I'd much rather have Barrett out there. Miller, despite his physical skills, is an utter clown.

The question was probably Barrett or Dyson. I?m surprised, that we didn?t cut Barrett instead of Dyson, but Mangini knows DBs, and when he keeps Barrett over Dyson, i have no doubts, thats the best decition.

I think Mangini really likes DB's who are capable of making one on one tackles. Dyson wasn't a very good tackling Coner.

Poteat is obviously penciled in as the starter with the release of Dyson. Miller will get his shot but I envision him at nickle when the season starts. Barrett as the dime and backup #2 is excellent depth. I assume Coleman rounds out the group as the #5.

Barrett is solid, kinda slow, but over all i do like him, I'd rather he wasn't a #2, but i think he provides excellent depth to the secondary and with improved play from the Dline, the secondary does not have to be composed of probowlers, they just have to their jobs and i think that barrett can be solid and step into that kind of role
