Granted you don't have to be that old school but I was screwing around at work today and saw that in 1987 Rick Cerone pitched in 2 games? Rick Cerone was a catcher so do you guys remember this and what where the circumstances? His line was 2 games, 2 innings pitched, no runs, no hits with 1 K and 1 balk.

Wow, I'm definitely old enough to remember, but I don't. It had to have been a gag. Like (Whitson?) batting DH for a couple games.

I want to say I remember this happening, but I just don't have a clear picture of it.

Ditto. In the "old" days, it was more common for teams to carry 15 position players and 10 pitchers, so in blowouts it was not that uncommon to see a position player finish up a mess.

I don't remember the specific games but that is what I would have guessed much like Boggs coming into pitch 10-12 years ago.

I don't remember Whitson but I do remember Rick Rhoden getingan AB or 2, I think it was in Boston.

Eh, maybe it was him, but I think it was Whitson. Honestly, it was so long ago, and I can't remember breakfast too clearly. I know whoever it was hit as a DH. I know Billy Martin was the manager at the time.

You are right that Billy Martin was the manager, he was fire not long after which would conclude his final stint as a Manager before he died a year and a 1/2 later.

Wow, I didn't realize that. I do remember when Martin died though. Being just a kid, my first thought was "Oh no, he'll never get to manage us again!"

The rumors were at the time that Billy was coming back in 1989 too. I think we are around the same age and I loved Billy too. Interesting side note(maybe only to me but...)- Billy Martin and Babe Ruth are buried at the same Cemetary as my Father.

Yeah, I think we're about the same age. I'm 32.

Billy was AWESOME. His tirades blow away anything these guys do today.

What cemetery is that? I know I've been there. (I can't remember who in my family is buried there.) My father is actually in Calverton out near Riverhead, LI.

Bah, we're not old yet. (Though sometimes, when we talk about the "old days" it kinda feels like it.)

I know I've been to that cemetery. I just can't remember for who. Even the name of it isn't ringing a bell. (Though my father used to work up in Westchester, so maybe I was with him when visiting someone he knew. It's been a long time.)
