is it just me (i was watching on TV) or did it look like Coles could have taken it all the way but lateralled too soon, when he had the ball on the left side of the field and flipped it back to Chad....?

can someone who was at the game fill in the blanks? the TV cameras showed there weren't any defenders in front of Coles...

If Anthony Clement blocks the guy who hit Coles(Gary Brackett?). It very much looked like Coles COULD HAVE ran it in.

That's what I thought as well. I was at the game, so I had a view of the whole field, and it didn't seem overly difficult. I'd love to have another look at it.

How is a play like that scored? One pass and seven rushes or just one pass and no rushes? How do you account for the yards gained after lateraling?

just read a transcript of the play on ESPN which says we advanced all the way down to the Colts' 27? is that correct?

i didn't realize we were that close to paydirt....would have been so friggin sweet =(

don't know what Coles was thinking, unless he was hurt....did he think Chad would have a better chance of juking his way to the end zone?

Yes, they did get down inside Indy's 30, but then fumbled and recovered by Indy at around their 40.

It would have been something if Indy was flagged for a penalty on the play and the Jets had a shot at game tying FG with no time on clock.

I actually thought that the 2nd time Coles got the ball (when he was hurt), he ran left towards the blocker rather than right toward open space. Once again, could've been the camera, but that's what I saw.

    1 pass...

a bunch of "receiving" yards, but no catches for the guys who caught laterals

Receiving yards, and a catch for Washington.

(yards for the guys catching laterals count from the point where the lateral was thrown.. so if the ball is thrown on the 40, the player catches it 3 yards back on the 43, and runs to the 38, he gets 2 yards)

You know what would have sucked though? Indy got the ball on the fumble, so we'd have to accept the penalty from the LOS.

i noticed brad smith in on the play. He is going to do something awesome soon.

I was surprised there wasn't some kind of penalty for Nick Mangold running with the football...

On a side note, the fact that he didn't run that ball back for a TD had huge Vegas implications I believe. He had no one in front of him, but stumbled slightly and got tackled from behind.

The pointspread was 9 1/2 I believe? If Mangold runs it in, does Indy kick the extra point, since they won and the game is over?

Yep, I was there too. It looked like had Coles turned on the burners he could've streaked right passed the defender. I think he was just worried that no one would've been close enough had he gotten into trouble since there was a tackler there. I also think had Chad thrown that ball harder, McCareins could've gotten a lot more yardage.

Greg Buttle is an idiot too, saying that the Jets could've scored had they rehearsed the play. You can't rehearse that type of play because you have no idea how the defense will react. ESPN's 5th Quarter analyst's suck.

Interesting...does Chad get credit for 2 completed passes on that play?

I doubt the score would've counted had we run it in...there were a few "intentional fumbles" and according to the holy roller rule, a fumble in the last 2 minutes can only be advanced by the fumbler, not another player. Make no doubt about it, it would've been reviewed and the refs were prepared to knife us had we scored.

I figure by Mangold, you actually mean the Indy defender. They do kick the extra point in regulation. They don't in overtime.

Only if the fumbles are forward that rule counts.
