I'm hoping that Bart Scott gets picked up as a FA, but that requires Favre to retire and the Jets to beat out the other teams after Scott, so that's quite a bit away.

    The Jets' picks are:
    Rd 1.17 (17 Overall)
    Rd 2.20 (52 Overall)
Rd 3.12 (76 Overall) (from New Orleans)
Rd 4.15 (111 Overall) (from Washington)
    Rd 5.17 (145 Overall)
    Rd 6.20 (180 Overall)
    Rd 7.19 (211 Overall)

Pick #17: CB D.J. Moore, Vanderbuilt / S Sean Smith, Utah
While at the moment this would be too early for Sean Smith, I think that he'll look good at the combine and his stock will rise. The Jets could use some secondary help, and either player would fit the mold here. If the FO isn't confident in Lowery, I would fully expect Moore here. If they are, then Smith.
    Alternate: WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland
This is one of the big reasons why you don't look into stats too much. DHB didn't have much help on Maryland's offense, but with a good combine it'll be no surprise for him to be taken around the Jets' pick. While the Jets don't particularly need help at the wide receiver position this season, Coles is getting older and receivers typically take three years to make the transition to the pro game. By the time Coles is done, DHB will be more than ready to be a starter in the NFL, and would be a perfect 1-2 punch with Cotchery. The 2010 WR class, however, is looking great, and someone of DHB's quality could be had in the second round next year.

Pick #52: DT Ron Brace, Boston College
When B.J. Raji was declared academically ineligible in the 07' season, Ron Brace stepped in and you can't say that Raji would have done that much better than Brace. Brace should be able to slide all over the line in the 3-4, spelling Jenkins at nose and playing at the end positions. With all of the teams switching to the 3-4, if Brace puts up a good combine he might not make it even this far.
Alternatively, if Scott isn't to be had in FA, then Brian Cushing of USC could be drafted in this spot to fill the ILB position. He's played lots of positions on defense ranging from safety to defensive end (and let's not forget the linebacker positions). He's got the strength to play inside in the 3-4 and isn't terribly slow.

Pick #76: OG Trevor Canfield, Cincinnati
Mangini would never have drafted Canfield, what with the assault charge. I don't think that will be as much of an issue with Rex Ryan in charge, though Tannenbaum is still the GM, so you never know. The Jets need OL depth, as they currently only have two backup offensive linemen (Hunter and Turner), both of whom are tackles. Canfield should also learn under Faneca and Moore to be groomed as a replacement for the former.

Pick #111: RB Arian Foster, University of Tennessee
Foster would give the Jets what they've been lacking since the early retirement of Cedric Houston, and something they need: A power back. Foster isn't slow, and he has good moves. The deck was stacked against him this year at Tennessee, and Jets fans should enjoy the return of Curtis Martin's "judo chop" block shedding technique, which Foster has used in his play.

    Pick #145: P T.J. Conley, Idaho
    Reggie Hodges?

Pick #180: ILB Josh Mauga, Nevada
Can you say injury prone? If Mauga can recover from his surgery and go a fricking year without getting injured, he'll be a steal. Due to his injury history, I wouldn't expect him to be more than a backup even if he could stay healthy.

Pick #211: DE Zach Potter, Nebraska
He isn't a bad pass rusher for a big guy. If he can hold the point of attack at the next level, he could make a good backup DE for the Jets.
Alternative: DT Nader Abdullah, Ohio State
    Defensive line depth.

Yeah, I got lazy towards the end. I'm still running through the top prospects, so I definitely don't know of any sleepers yet.

Great call with the 7th round pick. I'm a big fan of picking up Zach Potter late. He has great size (6'7, 285 lbs), is stout against the run and can get into the backfield (had 12.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks last season with 5 QB hurries). Had 7 PBU and blocked 2 kicks which isn't surprising with his awareness and size but also had 2 INTs which is very impressive. Had 46 total tackles and 1 FF on the season as well.

    Again, great call.

Not a big fan of the rest of the draft however.

I like the 7th round pick too. Something about picking players out of a defense that names itself after a fascist death squad seems to be the fear-inspiring attitude we need. All kidding aside I doubt Cushing makes it to #52. He's too talented and a lot of 3-4 defenses could use someone else at ILB, Baltimore needs to replace either Scott or Lewis, New England needs someone to replace anyone who isn't named Adalius Thomas, and Green Bay might want to invest in this position a little more given their recent switch.

not a fan of your first round pick.

but the rest of your draft is solid.

i would like to see a more explosive receiver as a first pick, if it was a wideout, but I would definitely go defensive end here, our defensive ends are too slow to seal the edge, remind me of dewaynes robertsons transition to a 3-4, he wasnt built for a scheme. and neither is Coleman. I also doubt Ron Brace will be there when we draft in the 2nd.

he commanded the double team, which allowed Raji to get those stats and look good. he's the TRUE steal of the draft if he gets overlooked, which seems to be the case in the recent mocks, and network predictions.

I disagree with you here. I'm not a big fan of Brace. He did not impress in the Senior Bowl or in practices. The practices were on NFL Network every day which I have on DirecTV and he didn't do anything to prove me wrong in 1-on-1 drills against college OL. I wouldn't be too upset if we drafted him since he has potential but right now he doesn't impress me as a prospect.

I dont know about the first round choice in part because I need to know what things look like on the board and who has been selected. I would prefer a little bigger of a corner than moore but if moore was available he is one of the top selections for the Jets. I like the second rounder but might consider it for someone like Terrance Taylor latter on. In addition I think you have to address an offensive skill position in the first three rounds. other than that it looks solid

    Round by round:

1 - I want Sean Smith - he's my favorite player in this draft. The only way I'd pass on him is if someone like Malcolm Jenkins, Everette Brown, or Mark Sanchez slipped. That's highly unlikely. I'd take Smith over Vontae Davis mainly because of his versatility.

2 - I'm not big on Ron Brace, or any NT in this draft besides Raji, and he won't be there in round two. I like Ziggy Hood as a 3-4 DE in this spot. He is going to tear it up in the combine workouts. He's probably not going to rise as high as I originally thought, but he'll be drafted very late first, early second.

3 - This may be a bit too early to draft a guard, but Canfield is the real deal. He will be a starter in the NFL. TC would help build our offensive line of the future. Faneca is aging, so this could be a solid pick. I'd wait til the 4th or 5th to grab an offensive lineman though.

4 - I don't like this pick...mainly because it's a bit of a reach, and better, more powerful backs should be available. Arian Foster is another one of those big backs that plays soft...a lot like Liberty's Rashad Jennings. Plus, I don't think we want another Cedric Houston on this team.

Since the Rex Ryan hiring, I've been saying we need ANOTHER power-back on this team. Guys like Andre Brown and Shonn Greene may be available in the third round. Both of these backs have more power potential than Foster. Some late round backs that I like include: Gartrell Johnson, Kahlil Bell, and Rodney Ferguson - all should be there AFTER round four.

5 - No need to DRAFT a punter. We can pick one up in free agency or just hang on to Hodges. Plus, better punters will be available here -- probably later even. I'd go after a pass rusher or an inside backer here. Paul Kruger, Cody Brown, Jasper Brinkley, and Scott McKillop are all possibilities in the fifth - some may be gone, but there is value here.

6 - I've been high on Josh Mauga for a while. I'm probably the only WAC supporter on this board besides Scik. He's not as injury prone as you think - he's missed significant time as a junior (six games). The sixth round and beyond is where luck kicks in.

7 - Potter is a big body that can definitely play DE in the 3-4. Basically all you can hope for in these last few rounds is a solid depth player. Potter could be just that.

good pick with britt. I know britt really well, because i do strength and conditioning with rutgers athletics and he is an athletic phenom, but overall, a horrible mock.

you just comitted the cardinal sin, you drafted a punter. Not only did you draft one but you took one in the fifth round. People would kill you. There are projects out there to be developed in round 5. As any darksider will tell you punters arent worth anything hirer than a 6, and thats only for the truly exceptional. most go undrafted and only maybe 2 a season get picked.
