this draft will be straight forward. no trades, no off season stuff (because they are harder to predict). 01: Jace Amaro (TE, Texas Tech) - say what you will about taking a TE in the first round, but it is a huge need for us and I believe Amaro will be a huge star. he's having a phenomenal year and I think he will end up being the first TE off the board. he has burner speed for a TE. is a fantastic route runner and especially good at attacking the middle of the field. Jace would be a huge weapon for Geno Smith. 02: Ryan Shazier (OLB, Ohio State) - I don't think Antwan Barnes will be resigned. Calvin Pace may be brought back at a vet minimum (I think he's playing well this year). Anyhoo, Shazier is ferocious pass rusher. he has Rex pick written all over him (if Rex is resigned). he plays like he has a rocket up his ass. another huge hole for us is OLB. I think Coples will adapt, he just needs to learn the position. 03 (from Tampa Bay): Aaron Murray (QB, Georgia) - this is an insurance pick. Geno hasn't really been improving. yes he is a rookie, but we are in dire need of a franchise QB. you keep drafting one until something clicks. Geno will be the starter but I believe Murray if called upon can run this team efficiently. he has a strong arm and is a polished QB prospect. 03: Davante Adams (WR, Fresno State) - I personally think we will be out of reach for Evans and Watkins, hence why I went TE in the first. Davante Adams is a perfect fit for us. he's a good size for a receiver and has great speed down field. I would be all in on signing Jeremy Maclin in the offseason. Adams would be a great number 2. 04: Andre Williams (RB, Boston College) - I would love to add a RB in the middle rounds. it isn't a huge need, but our running game could be better. I love what I've seen from Williams this year, a 2000+ yd rushing season and is a bruiser of a runner. Williams paired with Powell and Ivory would be a great mix of backs. I think Ivory is still the starter but all 3 could split the carries. 05: Vinnie Sunseri (S, Alabama) - Vinnie had a n injury so I think we could land him in the 5th. I don't think Ed Reed will be back next season (I think he retires) so we will need to grab another safety. Sunseri has great football IQ and has an excellent burst to the ball. 06: Spencer Long (G, Nebraska) - Long is another guy who went down due to injury. I think he would be a steal for us in the 6th. guard has been an issue for us. Ducasse has a brick for a brain and Winters could be better. Willie Colon has been solid, I would keep him around. Long played really well this year til he tore his ACL. he isa senior, so he has the experience. 07: Michael Campanaro (WR, Wake Forest) - Idzik Wake Forest pick. can never have too many receivers. thoughts?
Love the Andre Williams pick. You look at the players that rushed for 2000 yards in a season and there are some good pro running backs. Not sure Shazier makes it to the 2nd round and he's def not a 3-4 pass rusher. But he's got great ability and can play 3-4 ILB Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
Im a fan of this. As you know I love Amaro. I think he's the best eligible TE, and would prefer him to Ebron. Im praying he comes out, and I think he ultimately will. Shazier would be a good pick in the 2nd. He might go in the 1st, but if he's there in the 2nd he presents good value. He may be better suited in a 4-3, but he can rush the passer, and he is very rangy. Im not fully sold on Murray yet, but I am coming around to picking a QB (as Geno continues to play... poorly). I dont know if he has the tools physically, but he is very experienced and has a good mind for the game. I might prefer McCarron in the 3rd, or someone like Carr, Mettenberger or Petty if they are there in the 2nd. Geno has certainly let me down. I really defended that pick, and I liked him as a prospect. Bottom line is we need to find a franchise QB. If Geno doesnt improve by seasons end, adding another QB can only help our chances. I like Sunseri as a late round pick as well. I havent seen much of Andre Williams so Ill have to check him out.
I'm kind of indifferent. LOVE Davante Adams. He's going to be a stud in this league. Don't like the Shazier pick at all. Not a great fit in our scheme. Would much prefer Carlos Hyde in the 4th. Sunseri isn't likely to declare coming off an ACL injury. Long is fine. Good depth in the 6th. Now I'm not sure how I'd fell about Amaro in the 1st. I love the player, don't get me wrong. I just don't know if I could swallow a first round TE. If you could tell me that we'd get Amaro WHILE getting Adams and Hyde later in the draft, I'd sign up for that, but obviously you don't know how the rest of the draft is going to go when you make your pick. If we go for this scenario (TE round 1, WR round 3, HB round 4) I'd take Murphy or Michael Sam in the 2nd instead of Shazier, and then probably double up on receivers in round 3. I'd rather sign a vet QB to actually push Geno and see if Geno can compete with better weapons. It wouldn't make much sense to draft a rookie QB if Rex is still on the hot seat. If he gets fired with a rookie QB, we'd likely draft another one when the new HC would want his guy in that spot.
I think Shazier is an early second round pick. If hes not there what would you think of either Trent Murphy or Adrian Hubbard? Both great players.
Mock today putted Amaro in our Hands on first round . He twitted last night that he comes out in 2014 draft
With all the talk of the Qb's I think teams with need of a QB (Vikings, Browns, Jags,Texans, Raiders) will go in that direction and teams like the Falcons, Rams (2picks), Giants, Bills are the only teams we'd worry about taking a receiver. Rams went first round last year, Falcons have Julio, Roddy White, Giants have a bunch of receivers even without Nicks, and the bills seem to have a few as well. I think we will be able to get a receiver
