Believe it: Jets comfortable with green cast of quarterbacks By Matt Sohn - March 5, 2009 From the hiring of head coach Rex Ryan to the acquisitions of his Baltimore pupils Bart Scott at inside linebacker and Jim Leonhard at safety, most of the recent attention on the Jets has centered on the defensive side of the ball. Taking a bit of a backseat in the chatter has been the glaring lack of an accomplished quarterback. Sure, there have been rumblings about potential interest in Jay Cutler should the Broncos attempt to deal him again, but no development of any real substance on the QB front has stuck. That?s for good reason, as we hear team brass isn?t playing coy with its comments that it?s comfortable with one on the league?s more nondescript QB stables. Kellen Clemens, Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge have made a combined eight career starts. Adding credence to the notion that they?re content at quarterback is the fact that a year ago, many were incredulous at general manager Mike Tannenbaum?s assertion that he was not looking to unload Chad Pennington after his disappointing 2007 campaign. Yes, Pennington did ultimately wind up getting released but only because of the 11th-hour, unusual circumstance of the Brett Favre situation. Word we?re hearing is that the team genuinely believes Ratliff has real potential and that Clemens? marginal results in limited career opportunities were at least partially the result of a porous offensive line that should be far stronger in ?09 than it was in ?07. > http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW...wwhi030509.htm _______________________ > http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/sherwood__2_/albums.jhtml?albumId=1483650
what a joke this franchise has been at least last year with farve the jets got to 8-3 before the roof caved in now we are starting with raw qb-----raw wr ---- this is a disgrace jet fans have supported this team through all the lean years but at least had a qb who was acceptable this is a baaaad season coming up------no offense and the defense isnt good enough to win 13-10 games fasten your seat belts this is going to be a bumpy ride it is a disgrace what the front office has done for this year
i don't know how much stock to put into these reports, but it does sound like Ratliff has more of a chance to be the starter than Clemens. I still think this can all be an elaborate smoke screen for a QB if one falls to the Jets. a pure skill position playmaker is needed on this team with its 1st pick.
Hey Kelly, that band in your sig sounds like Sense Field meets Jamison Parker. I personally prefer Parkway Drive though.
At some point you have to find out what you have. Now is as good a time as any when we are essentially rebuilding with a new HC.
I agree, it is either star QB or bust. what a joke this franchise is thinking that they can develop a starting QB. everybody knows you have to buy one.
I apologize to everyone for posting off topic a few posts ago, I was listening to that band in her sig and just reacted without thinking thouroughly. Won't happen again. I have A.D.D and I get easily distracted by sigs with lots of stuff, girls in bikinis, music, etc.
you know....I think our O is probably going to be one of the worst if not the worst O in the league next season haha. All we have is T Jones and our O line. Once teams start run committing...we are screwed. We have Cotch as our #1 so far and the other guys IMO don't have what it takes to become a 2nd WR. Our O is going to horrible....Lets hope our D somehow brings us to the promise land!
I'm not a huge fan of the FO for documented reasons, but they are doing what the HC wants right now. Look at what Baltimore did for years. Defense Defense Defense (oh yeah and let's get a tiny bit of offense in there) So far, they have done exactly what I expected as soon as I found out Ryan was hired. I don't expect them to seriously address the offense until 2010. Let's hope they surprise me.
in a way, but if the OL is facing 8-9 in the box it'll be too much for any OL to handle. the QB needs to be someone who can keep defenses honest. Not out the gate scare them, but teams need to know that if you are going to stack the box and give 1 on 1 coverage on the outside, our guy can make the play. Problem is, who is that guy?
i dont want to write off this season i want us to get a quality qb and be competitive get the qb through trades---draft picks ---whatever just do it and give us something we can look forward to if our qbs this year dont turn out we will be in the same position next year it will be a footrace this season between jets and bills for fourth place in our division
Ratliff has a better chance, because I think the Jets believe they have seen all they can already, with regard to Clemens. But I cannot believe the Jets will not address the QB situation in the draft. Just in case things don't work out this year, at least you have a Sanchez being groomed for the future. And good young QBs like Cutler aren't usually available options. I think the Jets need to address the situation now, and I think their target is Sanchez, even if they have to move up to get him.
the part about Ratliff "genuinely having real potential." that type of wording says more than "Clemens had shit around him so he gets one more try" at least to me it does.
i'm with you - sanchez sits all next year while the Jets see if there is anything in what they have now... if not Sanchez is the next QB to try out, and he has more potential coming out then anyone on the roster now. to me that is the most ideal QB situation this team can have... have a 2 man QB competition and make it clear that sanchez is going to sit like they did to Palmer in Cincy. But we'll give Sanchez a team around him unlike Palmer has in that shithole.
