http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...qb.competitions/index.html?eref=si_topstories This guy makes some good points, I don't know what else a HC is supposed to do though when he's unsure who the starter is.
^ yeah, i read this article earlier today. Essentially Tucker just erased any "shroud of mystery" that a head coach tries to implement during a QB competition.
Good HC's find good QB's, that's basically how it works. Bill Parcells has never had a problem finding a good QB over a couple of seasons when he needed too. He won a Super Bowl with a backup QB because he was just that good at finding playable guys at the position. Sometimes good HC's buy in to somebody who is not a particularly good QB and then they're in a world of hurt. Bill Cowher bought into and stuck with both Kordell Stewart and then Tommy Maddox for much longer than he should have and ultimately he paid the price for that, as when he finally found his really good QB he lost the competition for influence with that player. I'm going to go out on a limb (yeah, yeah) and say that if Eric Mangini finds a decent QB this season he'll keep his job with the Jets for awhile and if he doesn't he won't. Yeah, it's a tough position to be in right now for him given who he has in camp.
this is stupid, obviously its hard to evaluate which qb is better but what would you rather do flip a coin?
