Chad Henne buzz starts to build By Harvey Fialkov | South Florida Sun-Sentinel September 18, 2008 DAVIE - After a solid NFL debut, Dolphins rookie quarterback Chad Henne couldn't help but hear the buzz around town regarding him as a replacement for starter Chad Pennington. "I was at Jim Mandich's Touchdown [Club] yesterday and obviously people were stirring it up a little bit, but I'm just going to go about my business and not worry about that and keep getting better," Henne said Wednesday. Henne took over for an ineffective Pennington with the Arizona Cardinals leading 31-3 and 9:42 remaining in the fourth quarter Sunday. Henne used a two-minute attack to direct an 18-play, 89-yard touchdown march in which he completed 7 of 12 passes for 67 yards. He displayed poise and a strong arm, particularly when he threaded a 19-yard bullet to Derek Hagan. "I think it's a big help," said Henne, whose practice snaps haven't been increased. "Just going in there getting them started, scoring a touchdown, getting some confidence building in there. It was a big plus." Despite calling Henne's brief relief appearance a "silver lining," coach Tony Sparano stressed that Pennington is his starter Sunday against the undefeated Patriots. "I have my quarterback. He's the guy that's playing," Sparano said. Pennington is only averaging 5.76 yards per completion, which ranks 22nd among 32 starters. "I'm not the guy. Chad's going to play and he's going to play well," Henne said. More big talk Linebacker Joey Porter isn't impressed with who is at the helm of the Patriots' offense in Tom Brady's absence. Sunday, Matt Cassel completed 16 of 23 passes for 165 yards and no touchdowns in a win over the Jets. It was Cassel's first start since his senior year in high school. "If it's not Tom Brady it shouldn't be that hard," Porter said. "It's not the MVP we're going against. They won last week, but it's not like they were putting up the crazy 40 points like they were when they had Tom," he said. "It's a different offense, a different team without Tom in there. I don't care what anybody says. It's not the same team." __________________
Seriously, the first 4 posts in his thread had nothing to do with the thread. Yes, we get it, the thread isn't Jets-related, report it to a mod and they'll move it to the NFL section. As far as Chad getting benched, well, good. Put Henne in there, we'll kill them next time we play.
Henne, Edwards, where the fuck is the Jets young talented QB? These kids are becoming/developing into something, its time to worry again. Henne won't be a bad QB. If I'm wrong - It'll be the best incorrect prediction I've ever had, but I think the kid is something special. .....so Chad really is done as a starter in the league? meh, saw it coming.
am i the only person who ONLY reads the main forum? who has time to miander through 20 forums??? get a life guys. this was a good article and i appreicate reading it in the main forum. good post KJ.
So because you read only the main forum the rest of us have to look at threads related to ex-players? Here's a thought- venture outside of the Jets forum to get news on all other players, including ex-qb's who simply couldn't deliver in NY... There's enough NY Jets news where we don't have to cloud the forum with other topics.
Are you forgetting that the Jets have 3 young Qbs with talent on the bench? Jets fans will bitch like little school girls about anything.
Well, we have Brett Ratliff and two other guys. That's not bad, hopefully we won't need the young guys this year.
Actually I think due to the many CP lovers that this article had some interest to them & they may not decide to delve into some of the other forums available on TGG. While not at the game on last Sunday I would be willing to bet there were still many fans there sporting NYJ CP jerseys. Thanks for the heads up KJ. I had post something similar on Monday because I was listening to Miami radio to see what the Miami fans reaction was to the debacle in AZ
I would think Henne's performance in garbage time against Arizona is pretty meaningless. As much as I hate the fish, I hate the patriots far more and would love to see them embarrassed by Miami - the chances of this happening are slim-to-none, but likely better with Pennington than Henne.
I'm one of the biggest Ratliff supporters on the board, but he hasn't started a game yet, so he's in Aaron Rodgers territory right now. As much as I think that kid is ready, he's a question mark too... I don't want to be the franchise behind the emerging losers that were below the Jets for the last 8 years.
Yea, having to click a link and look at the two, maybe three active threads in the NFL forum is just far too time consuming. ...or not. You could just quit being a lazy Jackass and go there instead if you want Phin news. This is not even close to Jet related.
You can't always be worried about the next 8 years, we have Favre now, let's go with that. I like Ratliff as an option if Favre retires (again), but you never really know what happens next. Just because a young guy has a few good games doesn't mean he's going to be a franchise guy for the next decade. Regarding Chad, I have no idea why he chose Miami. Minnesota would have been a much better option for him.
