So I'm from Montreal, but I'm heading to NY in a couple of weeks to finally see my first Jets' game. I'll be staying in Manhattan at the New Yorker Hotel which is right in front of Penn Station. I assume I'd take a train from there and eventually get to the new stadium, correct?

Can someone point me in the right direction on the easiest/quickest ways to and from the stadium, please? :)

Penn Station Train (NJ Transit) to New Jersey Seacaucus Junction where you transfer to the train to the Meadowlands. Supposedly a 25 minute ride altogether.

If you are lost, just follow the friendly guys with the green jerseys on.

You shouldn't be alone by no means... I believe all trains heading south of NY PENN stop at Secaucus these days..

Ahh, awesome. I didn't think it would be that quick a ride. I just was wondering how early we should head out to the game for. Will probably leave the hotel at 10:30 and have plenty of time to dick around by the stadium while waiting for the game to start, then? Hm, awesome.

If you leave at 1030 you'll be at the stadium by 1115 maybe earlier depending on train schedules. Go into Penn Station, follow signs for NJ transit go to ticket booth and get a round trip ticket to the meadowlands (i think its $10). The round trip ticket consists of two one way tickets (NYP - meadowlands and meadowlands - NYP), more on this shortly.

Then check the board for the next train going to Secaucus (the code is SEC). It's about a 10 minute ride to Secaucus. Once you get to Secaucus, you have to get off the train, and go up into the terminal. In order to get into the terminal, you have to place your "NYP - meadowlands" ticket into a scanner in the turnstile (it will eat your ticket and then spit it out again). Then you follow signs for the Meadowlands train and then go back down to another track and then get on the train. its about a 20 minute ride to the stadium (it takes 10 minutes to get to the stadium and then 10 minutes to go all the way around the stadium to where the stadium station is).

    Here's some helpful hints:
    1. drinking is ok on the trains and the platforms just not in the secaucus terminal
    2. put your meadowlands - nyp train ticket in your wallet. if you lose it (and you will) you have to pay again by waiting on a line in secaucus.
    3. at the time you're leaving, i recommend going to a deli and picking up a couple of sandwiches for lunch, a 12 pack or so and hanging out outside before heading in.
    4. it takes a looooooong time to get on a train after the game (figure 45 minutes at least) due to crowd volume and then once you get to secaucus you have to wait for a train going to penn station. Travel time between waiting for trains after the game is realistically 90 minutes and could be longer.

Great, thanks! I'll print that out (or copy/paste it to my phone..) when I'm in NY.

And on a sidenote... getting to the Nassau Coliseum... that seems like a huge pain in the ass, right? How much would a taxi cost? Say from Penn Station again.

Heh, yeah. The entire trip was planned around seeing the Jets vs Packers game since my friend is a Packers' fan. Turns out the Habs are playing in Long Island on the Friday night.

To get to the Nassau Coliseum is a pain if coming from the city but it can be done. Take the Long Island Railroad to Westbury or Hempsted and then take a cab from there. It's not too long a ride.

I think the best bet is to take LIRR to Mineola and take a cab from there, as there is a 24-7 cab stand there. Westbury or Hempstead work, but I dont think there is a cab stand.

After the game, go to the bar in the Marriot next door to the Coliseum, have a beer and ask the concierge to call you a cab back to Mineola.

BTW - you wont be alone at the Coliseum. Last Habs - Isles game was "the Forum South". Bastards. Tickets should be very easy as well - I think the Isles last sold out in 1994.

I bought my tickets on StubHub a few days after I found out the Canadiens were playing while I'd be there. I paid $35 each for upper deck tickets. I thought the price was good considering in Montreal I'd have paid about $70 for the same tickets.

I get the tickets and they have a face value of $75 each. Makes me feel better about spending $500 on a pair to see the Jets' game haha

Oh, I fully expect it to be an awful arena.

Keep in mind that I used to go see the Expos at Olympic Stadium 20+ times a season in my teens. THAT was a shit hole.

Or just take the PATH train from Christopher, 9th, 14th, 23rd or 33rd Sts. to Hoboken and catch the Meadowlands rail link from there. The Path is only $1.75 to get to Hoboken. Not sure how much Penn St to Secaucus is in comparison.
