We had a ton of ammunition to move up in this draft--There is zero chance all these kids make the team.
Given that late round picks are more or less a crapshoot, I don't mind the strategy of gathering a bunch and seeing who sticks.
The ones that do make it have earned it though, the more picks we have the better chance of striking gold on a late round gem.
They couldn't use half the picks they had to move anywhere since you can't trade compensatory picks. And how many guys are really worth moving up for past round 3 anyway? I'm sure if they saw one that was graded so much higher than anyone else on their board they would have tried to move up.
So far all of the picks will definitely make it. We have more space for a developmental ILB, OLB maybe, Punter, and 3 other picks can slide in here and there. 1 might get cut or go to the practice squad, but you never know. Antonio Allen is a starter for us right now and he was a 7th rounder in 2012.
We tried to trade back into the first. We tried to trade into the top of the second. It's not like Idzik sat on these picks, he was more than ready to unload them and tried multiple times. I wouldn't say Idzik is dumb, I would say the situation ended in a disappointing fashion.
We need depth and I guarantee at least one of these late rounders will develop into a solid starter/rotation player.
Oh definitely, this team's so stacked there's only room for a few guys on the roster.... package the few picks they can actually trade to make it happen
Really? No matter what Idzik would have done, there would have been a thread with a bunch of posters claiming that he is incompetent and "should have" dome something else. Give me a fuckin break.
We should dump a pick. Can we trade our 6th for a 5th next year? This would be sound strategy. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I am serious. These moves have happened before. A 6th today is worth a 5th a year from now. If a team with no more draft picks loves a player that's still around and has a higher grade on a guy, these types of trades can happen. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Get real. These later round guys play specials. You need extra linebackers and speed guys to run down the field. Big guys are useless on punt and kick coverage. I sometime wonder if some posters watch the games.
The Jets have been linked to Michael Sam, and we could use a developmental pass-rusher/special teamer. I wouldn't be surprised if we grab him with one of our compensatory 6ths. We could draft a solid punter as well. We may grab another DB/S for special teams as well.
This isn't a typical draft, a lot of the guys on the board still are guys that in a normal draft would be 3rd or 4th round picks. This is a VERY DEEP draft.
