The last potential GM thread got side tracked, so I am starting a new thread. The first name that I would look at is Scott Fitterer. He runs the college scouting for the Seahawks. Just this year, they have drafted a 7th rounder at DE who now starts and plays well at guard. Also, they drafted a 6th rounder who started the other day against San Francisco at CB. And then of course, Russell Wilson was probably the steal of the draft in the 3rd round. And top it all off with Bobby Wagner who was drafted in the 2nd round, and he is already one of the best LB's in the NFL. Thats not too mention a few others who they drafted who have had solid rookie seasons(Irvin, Turbin). Sorry, that was my rant. Anyway, this dude is obviously doing something right. I am not in NFL circles so I don't know for sure, but I would venture to say that this guy will be a serious GM candidate for a lot of teams. Anyway, who else does everyone want once Tanny is canned?
sounds like Fitterer can scout talent but can he run a team? my choice is Eric DeCosta. he's young and he's the assistant to Ozzie Newsome. the Ravens are a well oiled machine and we need some of that in our organization.
I'd take a long hard look at Brian Xanders, but that's probably just an impossible pipe dream. He assembled quite the team in Denver.
If I was Woody I am looking at someone from Seattle. With the way that team has turned it around and the way they draft..Oh hell as I type this Seattle drafts some crazy head scratching shit sometimes. Seattle San Fran GB NYG Pit BMore those are the teams to look at, maybe even Houst....
If Bill Polian still wants to be a GM then the Jets better reach out to him. The architect of the Bills teams who went to 4 straight super bowls as well as the guy who built the Peyton Manning Colts into an annual contender for more than a decade. He's the most proven of what's out there and it's not even close. However at 70 years old I'm not sure he wants to leave his ESPN gig for this mess.
we someone from a good organization, hopefully they don't promote from within. i don't trust anyone on this team.
Personally, if I were Woody, I would do something different. I'd divide the front office in to two different but related branches. One branch would be the administrative branch. That branch I'm fine with retaining Tanny in. That side works contracts, manages salary cap, trade negotiations etc. The other branch is the talent football operations branch. They handle the scouting, what players to pursue in free agency, what players to pursue in trades, and most importantly evaluate talent and address team needs. The Coaching I'd change as well. I'd keep Ryan as head coach, but limit him to strategic game calls and plans, and manage the defense. But the he'd be hands off on the tactical game calling in the offense. If he's not happy with that I'd hate to lose him because of what he does for the Defense and players generally love him, but he has no clue about offense, so if he can't live with that tell him good luck, and watch him get a DC job somewhere else. But if Sean Peyton were willing to come to New York, I'd show Rex out the door in a heartbeat. On the offensive side of the ball I want someone like Norv Turner, I don't like Norv as a head coach, but as an OC I'd love him. Now I have no idea who to hire for the talent/football side of the front office. I'm not even close to being up to date on that, but Bradshaw has to go.
I should say that the player talent side would have full say on all transactions, Tanny would just say if they can make the money work or not.
Lived off his Peyton Manning selection for a near decade. Produced bad run team defenses as well. I would absolutely look at someone from the NFC West. Seahawks or 49ers, more-so the Seahawks.
Everybody does like to be the guy who turned around the program. I know every time I play Madden or NCAA football I take the worst teams and try to turn them into powerhouses. Hopefully Polian would want to do the same, but i'm just being optimistic.
Ever take a look at his drafts while with the colts? Besides Manning, Freeney, and Wayne not much for almost 15 years. That team was good all those years due to Peyton. He's better than Tanny but I don't think he's the best candidate at this point especially with his age.
I was looking at various teams around the NFL Seattle hired John Schneider in 2010 from GB. Someone like this guy. Young. Experienced. He has worked for Ted Thompson in Seattle and Green Bay. Worked for Mike Holmgren and Marty Schottenheimer. Schneider has a very good staff. He had worked with most with them before taking the Seattle job. He has worked for a number of teams in various roles and under some good guys. He has been stuck in one place. http://www.seahawks.com/team/staff/John-Schneider/940d6037-3d45-4898-821f-221e8caa444d#
