I'm trying to come up with a few ideas for draft day trades since I might make a mock with a couple...

    - If Jamarcus Russell goes to Oakland, than: Tampa Bay trades #4, #35 and #102 to Detroit for their #2. The Lions would love to move down and acquire Gaines Adams, so this will be their only chance.

    - New England trades #24 & #28 to Washington for #6. The Patriots don't have too many major needs, but they would love to take LaRon Landry and would need to jump ahead of the Falcons to do so. The Redskins couldn't resist picking up two 1st round picks.

    - If Jamarcus Russell goes to Oakland, than Atlanta trades #8, #39, #44 & #109 to Detroit for #2. The Falcons too would love Calvin Johnson and Lions could take Patrick Willis there.

    - If Greg Olsen is on the board at #25, than Chicago trades #31, #94 & #221 to the NY Jets for #25. The Bears add another dimension to their offense and the Jets acquire a few extra picks.

    - Atlanta trades #39 and #44 to a francise that owns a selection between #16-#22 in order to acquire a top CB or top WR that is still available depending on who they take at #8. Possible targets: Darrelle Revis, Robert Meachem, Reggie Nelson, Ted Ginn Jr...

    - New England trades #24 & #28 to Buffalo for their #12 assuming Patrick Willis is still on the board. The Patriots need youth at ILB and this guy is the best LB in this draft.

    Let's see some ideas...

Use this chart to see if your trade is realistic... All of mine were within at most 100/200...

That would be an amazing trade for the jets. I would be thrilled with that because the Jets could probably get Grubbs/Blalock at 31, and it would give us another 3rd round pick. Then I see the jets possibly trading one of the 2 second or third rounders to move down into the 4th round.

Of course Greg Olsen will NOT be there at 25, but I agree that will be awesome if he was and If we traded the pick.

If the Panthers, Packers and Bengals pass on him, he's going to be around. It's possible that he's there IMO... And if he is, the Bears would love to add another threat to their offense, which is lacking in the recieving department.

Like the idea but hate the reason.

The more I think about it the more I have no clue what will happen as far as trades.

I really don't either, but I'd like to do a 2 round mock with a few realistic trades. Just for the fun of it really since I've never done one like that before.

If Brady Quinn falls, Miami trading their 1st and 2nd rounders for pick 6 or 7 in the draft and a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Its a hard read on the Patriots trading up. I think them cutting a deal with the 'Skins is a likely possibility though because of the 'Skins need to acquire more picks. I could then see the 'Skins trading that pick away to get more general picks (if they were smart....) I can also see them sitting on their two picks or trading down to get more just so they can have depth.

If a team came to us with a trading down option that got us a late first rounder, a second rounder and a third or fourth rounder, like your suggestion about the Bears, I'd be totally down. We can still acquire a great player at 31 and we can seriously get the depth we need with the other two picks.

    As usual, JetsFanInPA, great job.

Jonathan Vilma, plus 25 overall to TB for Calvin Johnson.

TB needs a MLB, plays the cover 2, and Vilma is clearly worth 1100 (14th overall) and as a bonus because of the way his contract is structured, we pick up a 3 mil hit, and they get him dirt cheap for 2 years.

They would still be able to get a WR at 25. (Bowe, Jarrett, Meachum)

OK, the Vilma trade is ridiculous... WHY would we trade Vilma?

And those rumors are both dated March 5th...

And don't turn this into a "trade Vilma thread" please.

Oh, and Tampa Bay drafted Barrett Ruud a couple of years ago. He's a their MLB.

Right well lets just analyze that article real quick:

The Journal News is reporting there were unconfirmed rumors (meaning that someone at Journal News probably read it on TGG or JI.net or another fansite) that the Jets were thinking of swapping their first pick, 25th overall, and a defensive starter (this was hot news like 2 months ago), to the Lions for the second overall pick. (won't happen)

We have to assume the 'defensive starter' is linebacker Jonathan Vilma as his name has been the subject of many trade rumors (again, on a fansite) the last few weeks.

    ------
With regards to your D-Rob comment about trading up. Yes it is similar to a degree but the likelihood isn't very high. I think Vilma is staying where he is and if we trade, we're trading down to build depth. Don't get me wrong, having Calvin Johnson on our team would kick ass, but it just won't happen. I can see the Patriots trying to trade up for him, and the Bucs. Once any team has him, I don't see them letting him go too quickly. He'll fall to the Lions and they'll entertain trades.

The Pats trading up for Calvin Johnson? They went out and traded for Wes Welker, signed Dante Stallworth and Kelley Washington... No way they use two first round picks to get at another WR.

Maybe they try to get Patrick Willis or LaRon Landry though IMO.

He's the Reggie Bush of this year's draft. Every year there is only one player. I don't think the Pats will go for it, but they're the only multiple first round team that could. Everyone else would need to trade other rounds or players up for it. That was the only reason I mentioned them.

If Olsen falls to 25, an easy trade might be 27 for 25 and a 2nd day pick.

The Saints need a TE and they have 3 4th rd picks. I'd do that trade in a heartbeat to get back in th 4th RD.

The 13 and the 22 (and the 116) for D-Rob was a disastrous trade for the Jets. The franchise collapsed 2 years later. Admittedly the 3 picks for Santana Moss had some causatory effects also, but basically you just don't trade multiple valuable assets for 1 player (especially a draft pick) and not feel some depth pain down the road.

The kind of trade that would make sense for Vilma would be a straightup trade for a good NT in his prime or for a second half of the first round type pick.

Don't forget that they signed Eric Johnson, who was once a Pro Bowler. Injuries really screwed him.

Would they still be interested in a TE? I'd say no.
