http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...om&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports The Pick: CB Marshon Lattimore, Ohio State Out goes Darrelle Revis, in comes Marshon Lattimore—a ball-hawk with great physicality and speed at the cornerback position, which is exactly what the New York Jets lack right now. Sure, there are needs at left tackle and quarterback, but this is a best-player-available front office. No quarterback or left tackle is worth picking here. A player who is a value, though, is Lattimore. As the Jets get younger and start on a true rebuild, Lattimore is the right kind of cornerback to add to the roster. He's a hard-working, no-drama playmaker on the edge and is capable of matching up in man coverage in Todd Bowles' system. And while he's not as big as Patrick Peterson, he can play that same role in New York that Pat Pete played in Arizona under Bowles.
Why do none of the mocks mention the 2 years Lattimore couldn't stay on the field due to injury? After the Dee Milliner experience that is certainly relevant to the Jets above all other teams. Nothing like picking a 2nd top 10 CB in a row who cannot stay on the field to really wreck a franchise.
Dee Milliner didn't miss many games in college. It was his extensive medical history/surgeries that was a red flag. Lattimore seems to have lingering hamstring issues which is concerning, but he's still a tremendous CB prospect and would be a solid pick.
Do you ever get the feelings that outside your own mentation there no intelligent light in the universe?
Dee Milliner and hamstring were synonymous in 2014, 2015 and 2016. It's like somebody would pull up on the field and grab their ham and I'd think "damn that guy probably has a Dee-string."
If they take Lattimore that might do it for me. This franchise doesn't learn from its mistakes and it's almost certain that Lattimore will be an injury bust on this team. All the while we still don't have answer for a QB since Pennington.
Not to mention that taking a CB at #6 is NOT a good value. Whoever made that mock for The Bleacher Report is full of it.
I don't believe this. Now, I do think with the Jets having as many needs as they do that you could make a case to pick just about anyone at 6? But I still think the sheer amount of help this team needs will trump the thought of taking anyone at 6? The need to trade down and accumulate more picks is now more of a necessity than ever before. Especially in this draft given the opportunity to get a few very nice pieces in the late 1st and early 2nd....
There is a chance he can get some value with the 3rds as well, even if he does not trade down. Don't worry Maine, I'm sharpening the tips on my pitchfork. There is no reason he shouldn't have a good draft, a lot of value in this draft. Mac should come out with a CB in the second round, an OL and a WR with his 3rds.
If we are going db's I rather have Adams at the 6 spot than Lattimore. The draft is deep with db talent and there is a good chance after sheldon is traded we will have 3 3rd round picks. If we have to move back up in the second round again to snag a potential starting cb we have some ammo to do it. Please Mac just say no to Lattimore.
This is one of the deepest DB classes in like a decade. Most of the analysts remark how a team could rebuild their entire secondary in this year's draft alone. Having watched all the combines DB drills and then some tape on a few standouts, I believe them. There's some impressive talent out there. There's no reason to reach on CB at 6. Not to mention if we did go DB at 6 I'd rather have his teammate Malik Hooker, who looks like the better prospect IMO.
The best way to improve the secondary is to get a pass rusher. Drafting Lattimore improves 1/4 of the secondary, drafting a guy like Miles Garrett, or someone like him, improves the entire secondary.
Many analysts assume the Jets will do silly things in the draft mainly because the Jets have done lots of silly things in the draft. It's a vicious circle.
Lattimore is a very good player; but it would be mad for us to invest another top ten pick in an injury prone corner after the Milliner debacle, especially given all of the other needs this team has. I'm hoping we trade back into the mid first round and acquire an extra pick.
Always worrying too much about plugging holes & making a splash than just concentrating on acquiring talent that fits what they're trying to do. Of course it helps when you actually have a PLAN of what you want to do. The Jets have absolutely NO PLAN,
