You’re talking about a tabloid writer getting pushed around 40 years ago, do you realize that?

Do you think there are a lot of industries that haven’t developed newer ideologies and operating procedures in the last half century?

In 1978 tabloids were a thing.

In 2021 life is a tabloid.

I mean I’ve watched the all-22 and there are some things he does better obviously, but I haven’t seen a single high quality touch throw or vertical pass yet. Based on what I’ve seen he has a promising career as a backup or potential vet placeholder, nothing that you bench the 2nd overall pick for.
Unless White shows that in the next week or two, it’s a pretty easy answer. It’s like having a pitcher who can only throw a 96 MPH fastball and a change up. It will work when he comes in and no batters have ever seen him before. It’s not going to function over the course of a season if you have no curve, knuckle, slider or anything to mix it up.

I'm as big a Zach backer as you'll find on the board... but you're right.

Mike White has shown that the offense can function... well even.
Zach has failed to do that. His game is not developed enough at this point to be successful within our offensive scheme.

Maybe it will happen... but until then you roll with what works and let Zach learn. He looks involved on the sidelines and seems to have the right attitude.
    That's a good thing.

    p.s. Fuck Joe Flacko.

Aren’t you a QB guy? Have you watched the all-22? How can you want to act like the long term answer is a guy who doesn’t have the touch skills to drop it on a wheel route? Or drop it within 6 yards of a wide open fly route?

Touch can be acquired. Complete a ton of passes and you will get better and better at putting the ball right where it needs to be at exactly the right velocity with the perfect spin. That's Tom Brady in a nutshell.

Not saying that Mike White is Tom Brady in waiting but he is throwing a huge number of completions and he is getting better at doing that with each one.

The deep stuff can wait until teams are trying to flood the underneath zones to stop the torrent of completions that keep moving the chains. That's Chad Pennington in a nutshell. Weak arm but very effective deep passer to the right receivers.

    So you’re saying:
-Give the 4 year vet backup 5th round pick game reps to develop key skills that are currently missing.

    Instead of

-Give the rookie 2nd overall pick game reps to develop key skills that are currently missing.

    What?

If White was likely to develop touch, why would have not happened in the past 4 years?

If White doesn't have it, the Bills will expose him, and we can all move on with Zach getting one more week to get fully healthy.

You're not listening to the crowd. There is no way the Jets could start Zach Wilson now if they wanted to. A couple of lousy drives and Wilson would literally be booed off the field. His path back to the field is through White coming back to earth if that's what happens.

Look at what was happening in terms of crowd interaction when Wilson was playing. Sullen silence lately with the occasional cheer when the blind squirrel found a nut.

White has had zero playing time in which to actually develop that touch over the last 4 years. Sometimes competition is the stone that sharpens the edge. That's certainly what it has looked like over the 7 quarters White has actually gotten to play.

The Bills have made every QB they faced this year look bad, including Patrick Mahomes. Odds are that White will not look great against them. No fault of his, just a terrific Bills pass defense.

Look what the Jets did to everybody in 2009.

Same thing adjusted for era. The Bills just have a great pass defense this year. 5 passing TD's allowed in 7 games and 11 Int's. They're allowing 4.9 yards per attempt which is an absurd number. 182 yards against in the air per game.

White could go 25-44 for 264 yards, 2 TD's and 2 Int's and the only guy they have faced this year so far with similar numbers would be Mahomes and the numbers would be very similar.

You should not base decisions around people’s opinions that don’t know what they are looking at.

If a guy went into a mechanic and said you need to remove the muffler on a car to make it louder because if it’s loud like a race car, that means it can drive faster, would the mechanic listen?

Mike White is just a poor man's Josh Johnson.

Hate to be a party pooper—but Zdubb is gonna start as soon as he’s healthy. That is their investment. It would take consistent dominance from Mike White for them to consider him as a long term plan. Zach Wilson is the FQB, not Mike White. Don’t agree? No worries—you’ll literally see it in time.

Just because it took Mike White four years to prove himself as a qualified quarterback doesn't make him any less of an athlete. Actors, struggle ten years before they get a big break, they are no less talented.

Mike White did what no other quarterback ever did. He threw for 405 yards and three touchdowns in his first game. His cleats and jersey are at Canton after one game. Mike White has captured the zeitgeist. Hell the Washington Post had a story on White last night after his injury forced him from the game. Since when does the Washington Post give a hoot in hell about the New York Jets.

Maybe, Mike White is the guy. Maybe it's Zach who knows. But, I think you go with the hot hand and let the kid sit on the bench and soak it in so he's ready when his number is called.

Seeing more of Mike White under center could be the best thing for Zach Wilson at this point.

Besides the performance and stats, it is interesting how the team seems to be more supportive (at least outwardly) towards White. The way they have rallied around him and have spoken about him have seemed more authentic than Wilson thus far. Obviously he's been with them longer and that could be it.

I also noticed, after White got injured, he was still heavily involved with what was going on in the game. He was huddled with Josh Johnson and the QB coaches and trying to give input. Wilson was standing with Flacco, at a distance from the coaching that was going on.

Just haven't been impressed with Wilson thus far--besides the arm strength. I've been long winded about this in other threads in greater detail, so no need to repeat it, but at this point I just really need Wilson to prove he was worth the hype. I'm willing to be proven wrong and would probably give it to the end of next year.

If White plays vs. Buffalo and performs well--there's no way you pull him. Total mood and culture killer right there.

Stop it! The Jets do not have a franchise quarterback; that is a title that is earned on the field, not granted by draft slot. In both games the offense moved the ball on their opening few drives that were running prescripted plays, not calls made from the benefit of a new vantage point. The big difference was the quarterback and Wilson has done nothing other than getting drafted to award him the slot. That's not good enough for me.
