    Progress from Polite
Third-round pick Jachai Polite, who led Florida with 17.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks last season and paced the entire nation with six forced fumbles, had a quiet start to camp. Flashing in individual drills, Polite had to make the most of the opportunities he had in limited team action. If Monday was any indication, Polite looks to have turned a corner. Lining up with the second-team defense, Polite lived in the offensive backfield and had at least two-to-three would-be sacks.
“Polite, he’s coming along. He’s starting to realize what he can do,” said OLB Jordan Jenkins. He’s got pretty good bend and can get around the corner pretty well. He’s just got to understand when in the defense he can do that and when in the defense he cannot. If he just puts in the work, he can be pretty good.”

Can't wait to see him Thursday. IMO Something tells me he is not a combine or practice warrior but he will excel when in games.

Cashman seems to really be impressing, too.

Would be funny if Mac’s first good draft class was the one on his way out the door

Yes, that would be a nice parting gift to the Jets and Jets' fans.

This is good to hear. Polite is trending well and is about what I expected at this time of year. I expect him to be a role player this year, coming in mostly on 3rd downs.

Cashman has been a total surprise though. If he could eventually become a good starter then we could probably let Williamson go next year and save money.

I'm a big Williamson fan but if we are going to be splitting time between a 4-3/3-4 and we already have Mosley... being able to replace Williamson with Cashman would be huge in a year where you still have your franchise QB on his rookie deal. I'm not ready to do that just yet though... he's still a top tier run defender and we have no idea what the DL will look like next season considering Leo is a FA. Also... depth. It's never a bad thing. To me, Cashman in his current form is what Lee could have been: a specialist. Could he be more? I hope. But a WHOLE lot has to play out before we move on from Williamson.

This is not a compliment. This is a huge red flag.

I saw this in an article about QW and it made me think of Polite:

I think you’re taking that the total wrong way. I’m pretty sure he’s saying all he has to do is keep showing up and putting in the work and it’s going to come to him.

Other than like a block and two catches he’s been as non existent as most people thought he’d be when we took a blocking TE in the fourth after trading down and missing on OL and CB because of it.

I like that none of the rookies were thrown right in with the 1s. Gase is making them earn it. So now you see cashman getting time with 1s in sub packages you know he is playing well.

I'm pretty sure he signed a contract to come to work and actually do the work. No need to say it unless it's a red flag. I'm pretty sure you're taking it the totally wrong way. Just because we are in desperate need for an edge rusher, doesn't mean wishing a 3rd round project who flunked his job interview is going to solve the problem.

Biggs typically it would be a red flag if it was made by a coach. But the comment was made by OLB Jordan Jenkins about OLB Jachai Polite. So it was made by someone who could lose his job to Polite. So it was more of a "backhanded compliment" than a red flag IMO

Stupid take. He's a rookie who has to...you know...PUT THE WORK IN TO GET BETTER. Any vet would say this. Stop looking for things that ain't there.

Do you think it's odd that literally no one but you is questioning his work ethic so far as a Jet?

That should be clue #1 that your take is off.

I wasn't questioning it until I read the comment. TC is full of nonsense that means nothing until its translated onto the field under the pressure of real competition.

Until I see metrics on work ethic, I'm not sold that it's relevant or not relevant.

I just thought it was interesting that the positive comment talked about work ethic. I just thought it was a red flag.

FYI I happen to enjoy snark, others may not.

I don't think it actually talked about work ethic. No one does. That's the thing.
