Did this for no reason other than boredom, and an interest in posting about some of the guys next year (inspired by WW's post a week or so ago). Note* I did it on team need, but I didn't go crazy trying to fit stuff in, so don't worry too much about that. This is more about the players. 1. St. Louis- QB Andrew Luck, Stanford - In future world, he’s a #1 pick whenever he decides to come out. He’s got Peyton Manning potential. 2. Detroit- DE Robert Quinn, North Carolina* - He’s a beast, just flat out. Of all the monstrous players on that Defense, he’s the best. 3. Tampa Bay- WR AJ Green, Georgia* - Production gets the nod in this arms race at receiver, of which the 2011 class is loaded. 4. Washington- DE Cameron Heyward, Ohio State - An ideal 34 End, he may be the best prospect in the country not named Andrew Luck. 5. Kansas City- WR Julio Jones, Alabama* - This receiver thing’s going to keep going. If AJ Green is Randy Moss, Julio is Andre Johnson. 6. Seattle- RB Dion Lewis, Pittsburgh** - Be afraid of this kid. Very, very afraid. He actually is LaDainian Tomlinson. 7. Cleveland- CB Patrick Peterson, LSU* - I still think he’s raw as a player, but he’s got unbelievable ability. 8. Oakland- QB Jake Locker, Washington - I’m not a huge fan of Locker’s, but he seems like a Raiders pick. Like a taller Jim Plunkett. 9. Buffalo- OT Gabe Carimi, Wisconsin - He’s got some technique issues to deal with, but could end up as a top five guy, excels with the run and the pass. 10. Jacksonville- QB Ryan Mallet, Arkansas* - Huge with a massive arm, Mallet’s got a lot of work to do, but his physical traits put him top ten. 11. Denver- WR Michael Floyd, Notre Dame* - If Brian Kelly wants to win, he needs to make sure Dayne Crist understands the Randy Rules with Mr. Floyd. 12. Miami- LB Akeem Ayers, UCLA* - A linebacker that can get after the play and devastate people. Love this kid. 13. San Francisco- CB Aaron Williams, Texas* - May end up the top corner if Peterson doesn’t bring it together. 14. Seattle- DE Adrian Clayborn, Iowa - A massive theft at this point, considered him at #2. 15. NY Giants- LB Greg Jones, Michigan State - Really nice, consistent player, could have easily been a first rounder this year. 16. Tennessee- DE Greg Romeus, Pittsburgh - Romeus gives the Panthers the best defensive player in the Big East, along with Lewis as the best offensive player. 17. San Francisco- OT Matt Reynolds, BYU* - Probably a Right Tackle in the NFL, needs to work on the body too. 18. Pittsburgh- WR Jonathan Baldwin, Pittsburgh* - Reason #3 why the Panthers are going to run away with the Big East in 2010. 19. Atlanta- CB Prince Amukamara, Nebraska - The older thing cooler than the name is his game. Aw yeah, rhyming. 20. Houston- RB Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech** - Oh… what a stud he is. I don’t know how Darren Evans will be used when he gets back, but it’ll be secondary to this kid. 21. Cincinnati- DT Marvin Austin, North Carolina - Better player than this spot, offensive draft depth pushes him down. 22. New England- LB Von Miller, Texas A&M - Explosive passrusher, may end up a lot higher in a draft with much less 34 OLBs. 23. Green Bay- RB Mark Ingram, Alabama* - Ingram’s a good player, but just doesn’t have the ceiling of Lewis/Williams.RB Evan Royster, 24. Philadelphia- Travis Lewis, Oklahoma* - A lot of people thought he’d leave as a sophomore, so he’s an easy early entry pick. 25. Baltimore- DE Allen Bailey, Miami - A Miami first rounder?? Wow, that took a while. Raw, but one of the most gifted players in the country. 26. Arizona- DE Jeremy Beal, Oklahoma 27. Dallas- OT Anthony Costanzo, Boston College - Would give the Cowboys a pair of bookend BC tackles, Costanzo and Columbo. 28. San Diego- RB Evan Royster, Penn State - They need a back, and even though a bunch are already gone, this draft is deep enough to grab a stud this late in the first. Royster does everything well. 29. NY Jets- S DeAndre McDaniel, Clemson - Huge fan of his, wish he would have come out this year. 30. Minnesota- DT Jerrell Powe, Ole Miss - They have to replace Pat Williams sometime, and Big Poppa Bear Powe is a good choice. 31. Indianapolis- CB Ras-I Dowling, Virginia - Kind of a tweener corner-safety like Chris Cook, but he’s more on the CB side. 32. New Orleans- DE DaQuan Bowers, Clemson - Big End with some speed would be a great fit.
Dion Lewis has the potential to eclipse Dorsett in Pitt's legacy. It is an honor to see him suiting up for Pitt. If we lose Leon and Tomlinson after this season without picking up a HB in the draft, I would not be upset if the Jets pulled out all the stops to get this guy. Then again, I am a complete Pitt homer. /awaits people to edit "homo" into post.
Dion Lewis is a player who cannot be touched the sting of homerism. If I had the choice of any running back in the country, I take Dion Lewis. He's a disgusting athlete. The only reason I hope he stays for his junior year is that I'd get to see him in person again when he comes back to Rutgers Stadium. He'll probably drop another 180+ too.
I do kind of feel bad for the Charges, I'm just a little too superstitious about drafting a Penn State running back no matter how good he is Also I would have a hard time not putting Mark Ingram as the number one back especially if he puts together another amazing season against the best defensive talent in the country But like you said its way to early and a lot can change in a year
I love Ingram, and I think he'll always be a good NFL back, I just get the feeling that a few other guys have that big time potential. What's your opinion on Peterson, Rhodes? I know he has elite skill, but I just want to see him consistently play at that level.
I will say this much he did not have a great pass rush this year one of the worst LSU D lines in history although I think Drake Nevis is going to work his way up to a mid level pick. The best thing for Peterson would be to be in a Revis like role where he is always on the teams top wideout. He did that a bit but Chavis needs to commit him full time. The Bama game was a perfect example of why he should be on the teams top receiver. My favorite thing about Peterson is his size. He looks HUGE but in a good way, maybe watching Revis and his height has altered my perspective. But I will say I think his biggest weakness is mental. He needs to find his read and react to the play better, once he gets on his man he is good to go. I think his ball skills will get better over time. I still get so angry about how the officials blew that call against Bama, even if we didnt win that INT was so WR textbook its crazy
I meant that in a positive way, as in he's a disgustingly monstrous athlete of dominant ability. I'll edit the wording.
Not unless they tried to arrest him for assault after breaking all those ankles last year... OOHHH....
I know its way too early to guess like this, but i wouldnt be surprised if we traded down to try to make up for the missing draft pick from the Cromartie trade. Then again this is the jets... and Tanny prob wont like picking @ 32 so maybe well trade up and have a similar draft to the Greene/Sanchez year where we only get 2 quality players. Plus I think OL becomes a top priority for us next year, barring us having any glaring holes this year.
Not happy I want one of the stud DE's in the first round. I don't care what it takes to trade up to get Heyward we should do it.
Going from the last 5~ picks to the first 5 ~ picks will cost us this (2011) and next years draft (2012). I cant think of a team ever trading that far up.
If we don't come away with Heyward, Romeus or Clayborn next year I'll be super disappointed. Wouldn't mind Marvin Austin either but I want one of those 3 next year.
I remember when the jets were 4-6 and we were all talking Cameron Heyward. He would have gone top 20 if he came out this year. Probably top 12
He would've been tied with Berry for my favorite prospects in this draft and would've loved any sort of a trade up this year that would've netted him for us. Heyward is going to be sooooo good in the NFL it's not fair that we probably don't have a shot at him.....unless we choke. As much as that would suck Heyward would definitely be a nice consolation prize.
If I was one of these shitty teams desperate for a QB I would consider filling other needs and waiting till next year. All 3 of those Qbs will be better prospects than any of the QBs in this draft. Next year will be a good QB draft, this one is terrible. For all the talk about 2010 being the best draft of the last 10 years, next years looks even better, at least the first round.
Loosely. I slotted them on needs, but didn't go into as much depth with it like it were a real mock. I'm not a fan of either Locker or Mallet to be honest, and I'd probably put Bradford and Clausen between Luck and those two. They both have a ways to go for me as prospects. I will say that if Jerrod Johnson can develop a little more he can jump them and end up behind Luck (who I put in just in case he did leave, though he probably won't). I think everyone would have him at #11 to Denver, they need a DE more than they need a nose.
