A lot of Manning buzz right now. Don't do it Tanny! Too often, the Jets FO makes moves where it seems like the goal is to be the Super Bowl favorite in the off-season to the casual fan. Don't do it this year Tanny!

IMHO, if you fix everything else ( Schotty, the line, a good OLB, a safety and a WR) , then Sanchez falls into place.

Even though they lost to the Giants, the Jets are very relevant in NY. Smoke & mirrors aren't necessary any more.

The Jets, Rex and Tanny need to win big next year. Not necessarily a VLT, but they have to come very close and give the realistic impression that they could win it in 2013 and beyond. They need to re-tool in a way that makes sense. This is not the season to pull another "Favre-like" stunt with Manning or whomever. The time, energy and money would be better spent else-where.

A Favre-like stunt would represent a last-ditch effort by Tannenbaum to bring a championship to NY, and most likely cost Rex/Tannenbaum their jobs in 2 years if it didn't pan out.

I agree, and who is to say he won't get shellacked behind a bad oline and he would be done for the year.

Stop with these one year dog and pony show moves, try another OC, strengthen the Oline, get back to being a top running team with a good RB, get some safeties see where it takes us.

This Peyton thing is getting kind of annoying now, if people were actually following the Peyton issue and not just praying on him coming here AKA a miracle they would know that Jim Irsay has paid Manning 26m to do NOTHING this season in the hopes of him being able to practice, Manning has been told to fail the physical coming up so that he can use the facilities and be watched closely this offseason and theres already good progression on his neck/his throws. If hes even close to normal paying Manning his option in March is pretty much guaranteed.

Totally agree. Only thing I would add, even though it's a subject not well liked around here, it's the fact that with the priorities you mentioned we must also add a shifty top tier RB. I don't feel we can go to camp next year without supplementing Green with a younger LT replacement. McKnight its not the answer in my opinion.

True, but I felt like FO & Tanny fell into the Favre and Ashomuga traps because of what was printed in the papers, and I'm not sure that he is beyond falling for the temptation

The only way this makes sense is if Manning is healthy (who knows), if the Colts cut a healthy Manning (not likely), and, given that the Jets don't have a huge amount of cap space and have a bunch of other areas to upgrade, if a healty Manning decides to play in New York at a massive discount to what he can get from a variety of other teams on the market.

I honestly wouldn't mind having Peyton Manning, the problem lies in the fact that who the hell do we have that can be traded and match his value? We'd have to lose Revis, Sanchez and somebody else guaranteed. It doesn't really make much sense, and I highly doubt the Colts are getting rid of Manning. Personally, I thionk it's unrealistic and I'm cool with keeping Sanchez, just get rid of Schotty. I could imagine Peyton Manning coming here and having the same issues as Sanchez.

I dont see why you would need to trade anything as Peyton would need to be released - he is not going to let himself be dangled around as trade bait he will only go somewhere he wants to go - he is sat of a freaking monster contract that no-one else is going to pick up so there is absolutely nothing the colts can do to force a trade.

bad idea. Sure Manning is one if not the best qb's to play the game but that's not how you build a championship calibre team. We need to focus on making smart decisions through the draft, as well as offensive scheme and chemistry. Tanny made a few bonehead decisions this offseason and schotty is just not the answer at OC. I think with the right personel and scheme we can rebound and have a much better year next year. Getting manning would set this team back for years. In addition, his injury risk is way too high.

This only makes sense one way.

Fire Schottenheimer. Hire Moore, and pick an OC in waiting, so when Moore and Manning are gone, you have the building blocks in place 2 years down the road.

Personally, I don't see it happening.

that would be such a SOJ move. the smart bet is allow time and give Mark the pieces so he's top 5 QB next year

That's not quite the problem. Under league rules the Colts can't trade him until mid-march, but they have to pay him a 28 million bonus in early March if he's still on the roster. Once they've paid him that bonus it's hard to trade him because the Colts would take a roughly 40 million cap hit in 2012 . Other teams would love to trade for him after the March bonus--at that point they'd be picking up a roughly 4 year/30 million contract because he would have already been paid most of the money due to him, but it would be next to impossible for the Colts to make that deal.

Of course Manning's such a big shot that it would be impossible for the Colts to trade him somewhere he doesn't want to go.

It's hard to believe that the Dolts will let go of Peyton Manning for any price. He's a god in Indianapolis. In fact drafting Luck with a healthy Manning would be a smart move on their part.

You hit the nail right on the head, JetsUK. The sad fact is that the Colts cannot trade Manning, all they can do is release him. That's the only way they would have the cap room to start to build the players around Luck.

The Jets, even if he were released, could never sign him. He isn't going to play for anything less than $20MM and the Jets don't have the cap room for HALF of that. Sounds nice, but it "ain't gonna happen".

About the only thing the Colts can do if they really want to get value from that first pick would be to trade it. The pick itself is worth a lot more than Manning would bring. Given his age, injury history, missing a year, and cap situation, you'd be lucky to get a 4th round pick for him at this point. However trading the pick and moving down, but still staying in the top 10 would bring multiple first round picks....and more.

BOTTOM LINE - if he's healthy, you keep him and trade the pick. If you aren't sure, you release him. Not to worry. We won't have to throw a testimonial for Peyton any time soon.
