Hopefully this wasn't something previously asked or posted but if it was i'll apologize to the "thread police" now and get it out of the way. Lets say the Jets wanted to go after someone like Peppers. We all know we are restricted due to the final 8 rule, but lets say they talk with Carolina and get Carolina in on negotiating a contract with Peppers that the Jets want for Peppers, then he signs it and gets traded to the Jets. Is this a possibility? I was using Peppers as an example BTW.
Well yes that would work, it's just extremely unlikely. There is nothing stopping the other team from dropping out of the trade at the last minute, then leaving the other team stuck with a new contract on a guy they didn't want to sign long term.
They could put anything into a contract. It all comes down to negotiations and who is willing to give in to the other. At this stage of the game, it is too early to concede positions.
No. The F8P has specific restrictions against trading for a player that we would not be allowed to otherwise sign under the F8P. I made the same mistake in thinking we could do a sign and trade for Dunta Robinson, then WSW pointed out the Section in Article XXI that forbids it.
