When the Jets drafted Brad Smith I expected all kinds of trick plays and thought they would utilize him the way the Steelers used Randel El. Brad Smith has gotten a lot of direct snaps, and touched the ball a decent amount, but I don't believe he has thrown a pass yet. This guy is not Leon Johnson. He was a prominent passer in a major conference and VERY productive. Jets coaching staff is very bright, so I'm sure they realize what kind of weapon Brad Smith can be come playoff time and will be used as a secret weapon because the Jets haven't used him as a passer all year. When we're facing agressive defenses such as the Raiders, Chargers, and Ravens I think Brad Smith is gona come up HUGE, just like Randel El was for the steelers in last year's playoffs. And yes, I consider us in the playoffs already; Oakland is game 1.
How can you say that Oakland is game 1 of the playoffs? The intensity of the game will be so different moving from the Oakland game to indy or New england. Anyway, i would love to see Brad Smith make a few passes, as long as he doesn't do a qb run every third down.
Were you at Jets vs. Green Bay a few years ago?? The intensity in a MUST WIN regular season home game the last game of the year is just as much as the intensity of a playoff game.
i think we should have our Leak and Tebow combo with Pennington being the Passing QB and smith throwing every once and a while but running for the most part. that would be great.
its ok, you're an aussie right? you see, this is game 1...because this game is win and in, lose and youre probably out. technically, its not the playoffs, but it is to the team, and to us.
yea this game is definitely playoffs.. but i was lookin at it that way since the minnesota game so its really nothing new, its a must win game.. too many things have to happen if we lose and nobody wants to depend on that. as for brad smith.. i think hes got a lot of potential, but the jets coaches see him best as a reciever right now and hes been doing pretty well as far as im concerned. they even threw him a hugeee third down pass which he converted last week. the direct snaps and all those things were a lot more successful earlier in the year, but teams started preparing for those kinds of things and the only way he got run yards were on reverses every now and then. im sure the jets do realize his potential as a passer like jets3399 said, and are maybe saving his trick play potential for the playoffs when we might need an extra boost against teams we would be considered overmatched (san diego, baltimore.) but if the jets are in a situation where they find themselves down in the oakland game, or the wildcard round if they make it, i wouldnt be too surprised to see an option pass for brad smith.
I don't consider this game a lock at all.... I don't take ANY game lightly being a Jets fan for all these years, and am stating that we may see Brad Smith used as a potential weapon
