Baltimore Ravens QB Kyle Boller UFA QB Todd Bouman UFA RB P.J. Bart Scott is the only guy that interests me at all. He'd replace Barton nicely and already knows what Ryan wants to run. As a ILB that would be very helpful. Ivy is probably too old to be much help in the secondary. But at a cheap price he could add depth.
^ It has.... Scott would be important because he would know what to run. Like Mangini bringing in Kessell and Chatham because they could help with the 3-4 transition in 06.... Scott can just help with understanding the new schemes coming into place.
The Ravens are going to re-sign Crazy Ray, but if we ever got that guy, I would need a new pair of underpants.
The Jets could use most of their FA on the defensive side of the ball. that said it is really only likely a couple could be brought in. electric has the list of potentials pretty much down pat. Bart Scott Jim Leonhard Terrel Suggs Trevor Price (stated he would follow Rex if he became a HC in other threads) long shots being Lorenzo Neal (I prefer T-Rich) Dawan Edwards Dawan Landry is an RFA meaning that we can only make him an offer, and depending on the tender he is given, we would not only be required to give up draft picks but potentially a first and a third, again depending on the tender given. So he is unlikely, making Leonhard the more likely of the two to hit the open market. Scott is the best fit for us, all though Suggs would revolutionize our pass rush. Of course by acquiring Suggs, we not only need to cut Thomas, but we automatically give up on Gholston being more than a situational pass rusher/ injury fill-in, for the life of his contract. Neither of which am I opposed to doing. Hell if we could steal Scott and Suggs, only to lose Bryan Thomas, Brett Favre(retire), David Barret and Eric Barton. I think anyone would make that deal.
its a plus Scott knows the system..but that dude can play..Bart Scott and David Harris would be sick...Landry would be a good pick up also
Definitely we need Leonhard. If we sign the players nyjetsrule suggest (Bart Scott, Jim Leonhard, and Trevor Pryce) we would clear a lot of problems at a small price. Needs: QB: Would like to draft Rhett Bomar HB: Jones is getting old ,but TJ/Leon/Caulcrick or Woodhead can get it done FB: Richardson is old. TE: Only if we trade Baker for cap room this becomes a need WR: Coles is old and Cotchery is a number 2. Oline: There is no such this has having too many O-Line men DT: Jenkins needs a good backup. CB: Lowery = nickelback P: Hodges isn't good.
I'll categorize the ones we could have interest in: QB Kyle Boller UFA-Never as productive as Baltimore hoped he would be after they drafted him in the first round, and is considered a huge bust. Even if we are going after a veteran to compete for the job, we could do better. FB Lorenzo Neal UFA-One of the better blocking fullbacks in the NFL, but we could just as easily resign Tony Richardson. If T-Rich retires or wants to go elsewhere, he could be a nice pickup. DL Dwan Edwards UFA-If he was ever to be healthy, he could be a solid contributor at defensive end. The guy is about 6'3, 300 pounds, but has never really proven productive. I doubt we go after him, unless Ryan wants him. In which case, I trust Ryan. LB Ray Lewis UFA-Ray Lewis is one player who Mangini would never want on the team. Guaranteed. I mean, he killed a guy 5 years ago. Still, he's one of the best linebackers in the NFL, and would look great in green and white. I doubt we have anywhere near the money to bring him to New York, though. LB Bart Scott UFA-Probably our best chance for a Ryan import, Scott is a really good inside linebacker, but he's similar to Harris, in that he's more comfortable attacking the line of scrimmage than covering tight ends. We could use someone who's more fluid, but he's certainly a better option than Barton or Bowens. CB Corey Ivy UFA-I'll admit to knowing little about Ivy, but he wasn't listed among the top 50 CBs by that guy in the other thread, he's bounced around and only has three interceptions in his career. Could he be worse than Lowery or Barrett, though? SS Dawan Landry RFA-Landry seemed to regress from a phenomenal rookie year, but I'll bet he's still a guy Baltimore would love to keep around. He's a very versatile safety, he had 5 picks and 3 sacks in that rookie campaign. Would be a great get, but a tough one.
No. I know Suggs is a free agent, but 2 people in this thread have said sign T Pryce so I was curious.
I like Bart Scott...... anybody that is willing to go on Jim Rome and say Chad Johnson is afraid to come across the middle on me is the guy I want decleating Wes Welker 2 games a year.
The beauty of having their former coach making this decision is that we won't end up with the guy that just looked good because of who he was playing with, but the guy that made him look good.
