Players See a 'Pretty Stacked' Team at OTAs Published: Wed, May 19, 2010 - 4:31pm ET By Eric Allen “I’m doing 1-on-1's against the linebackers, but I’m like 'Braylon’s going against Cromartie.' I’m looking out like I want to see this matchup and I want to see Santonio Holmes against Revis,” T-Rich said. “It’s cool because the competition makes everyone better. This is great.
I think that works two ways. The obvious way is that, come gameday, the guys they're going to be going up against are going to seem like cake. The other way is that the lesser/inexperienced players on the team are going to progress quicker than players normally do on poorer teams because the guys that our guys will be competing with/learning from are so much better than the the players on the teams picking at the top of the draft year after year.
You have to think Wilson and Lowery are going to be getting a lot of time covering Cotch who should be among the leaders in 3rd down receptions this year. It's only going to make them better as well. There won't be too many 3rd CBs that can cover Cotch and we will have 2 guys doing it everyday in practice....amazing. The other that struck me was Holmes being covered by Revis? Does this mean Santonio is going to be the #1 guy? Then again they may have him go up against Revis because if he can beat Revis in practice he can beat anybody in the league and Edwards had that task last year. You have to love the fact that Holmes and Edwards not only competing for the #1 job but also for a big contract.
I'm so excited for Sanchez to get 100% healthy and really get the chemistry going with the offense. Great article.
Damnit, after articles like this I'm again finding myself getting overly excited about the upcoming season. Take a deep breath and relax kid! It's May.
I don't think it means anything, I am sure they have been switching up coverages. But Revis doesn't need a ton of practice against the big, physical receivers. He has enough strength to jam them at the line. Revis said earlier in the season that OchoStinko and Reggie Wayne were the toughest receivers to cover, and those guys both have very quick feet and are elusive at the LOS. Revis knows where his bread is buttered, disrupting the routes and timing, so he's probably going to get a lot out of practicing against Holmes this season.
Revis tanked him in practice the other day. They just want him going against the Jets most professional player. (yeah I know you know this). Holmes by week 6-7 will be the Jets #1. Unless of course Braylon just steps up and catches everything. Which is very likely now that his oil bitch is on the Cards. ............. Yes, it is my thesis, that the oil he rubs on Kerry and Kerry rubs on him was making him drop passes.
Pretty much a 180 from the kind of comments we were getting last year from Rhodes. If you a playa, you chill.
Right now I would consider Cotchery to be the Jets' #1. If Braylon steps up, he can take it. But there is no way I can see Holmes stepping in after missing 4 games and being the #1 option 2 weeks into his season. Maybe for the playoffs. Not week 6 or 7.
Not sure if its a strength or weakness at this point but I like that there's no clear cut #1 receiver on this team. Instead we have 3 guys with different skill sets at pretty equal levels of talent.
man. braylon and holmes wide, coth in the slot, then add keller and bacon to the equation. how the hell do you defend that?
Get to the QB. LG is a wide open gap, no? Faneca is not there any more I thought. My impression was that Jets were going to put a road pylon there...
As far as talent goes, you may have something there. But as far as a primary target, which is what I consider the term '#1 receiver' to mean, Cotchery is the man. Holmes may surpass him near the end of the season, but Sanchez will really need to develop something with him or it'll be the Braylon Edwards Project Of 2009 all over again with mistimed routes and interceptions.
