Notice anything about the Jets players today? Post your observations here. I was paying attention mostly to linebackers and running backs (as I normally do), and here's what I noticed: -I normally think Barton is bad but he had an awful day. Two missed tackles, two blown coverages, got pushed back by blockers every time I looked and on one play that he did make a half tackle, Hobson was dragging the guy down and Barton actually hit Hobson off of the ball carrier. Not good. -Harris was great against the run again, and while he played tight coverage he didn't play the ball that much and focused more on tackling after the catch. Not bad but still could be better. Did well with his pass rushes. -Hobson didn't do well when he blitzed, barely pushing his offensive lineman back at all on two different occasions. He did a good job of getting off his blocks and wrapping up the ball carrier against the run. -Dewayne Robertson lined up at end on many plays. Two plays in a row stuck out in my mind: Robertson at left end, the right tackle and a tight end pick him up. He presses between them and pushes them both back into Croyle. Next play, Robertson is lined up at right end. He bull rushes again and is this time double teamed by the LT and the LG. They hold him and get pushed back at most a yard. He also dominated his tackle when he was blocked by only one player. Towards the end of the game, he started giving up on plays and halfway through his rush would disengage and just jump up and keep his arms up to distract Croyle. -Thomas Jones was impatient and didn't wait for holes to develop in the running game. When penetration arrived early, however, he was able to find the holes left by the penetrating defenders when he was able to get away from them (which was a decent amount of the time). After Leon Washington came in late in the game and had some big gains where he showed lots of patience, often stopping completely and just watching his blocks develop, Thomas followed suit and performed a lot better. -Hank Poteat was great in coverage again. He had trouble bringing down TEs and the RB (why we had him covering Gonzalez on multiple occasions is beyond me) but did well in breaking up the passes. -Eric Smith, like Poteat, had trouble with the larger ball carriers. He did do well in pass coverage and extremely well when he blitzed, however. On one play he came in from a cloud zone to tackle Gonzalez and while wrapping him up with one arm, swatted at the ball with the other. Gonzalez saw him going for it before the first swat and switched hands. Many ball carriers wouldn't have seen it coming. It didn't amount to anything, but it is nice to see the effort.
D'Brick needs somebody good playing next to him and this team really could benefit by getting a true power fullback.
Not Jets related in particular...Tony Gonzalez is really overrated. Lots of balls off his hands today. Clemens ignores entire portions of the field and looked entirely uncomfortable. He aims the ball. Not an encouraging performance. -X-
wallace wright had his best professional game as a wide reciever today...i thought that was awesome....had that huge catch from leon....had a nice short catch that turned into an 11 yard play....and as far as special teams, he was a beast again...but only had a 3 yard return i think leon washington is a very patient runner who is agile enough to complete stop and start running again....two plays i recall havin excellent vision and cutting back for big gainers.....hes small and its funny to watch him get tackled because he is usually heaved around but he runs very hard... Jerricho Cotchery had another big game, dropped one pass that was like a 60 yard gainer but i believer the corner was bumpin him....he defiantly plays with fire which i like, he was yelling and you can tell he was getting pissed by clemens poor play...hes defiantly a leader on the offense Ben Graham.....actually had a great game today..NO SHANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm less worried about Clemens than I am Brick. Brick got absolutely torched today and scared the living sh*t out of me. I thought he was making progress this year, but after what I saw today, I'm not so sure. Granted it was against a pro bowl lineman, but those are the types of guys he's supposed to be stopping. He was a turnstile today. That stood out to me more than anything else.
I agree. Brick looked awful. Allen is a beast, but those are the kinds of guys he's supposed to beat. I think it does have to do with his size. While he does have great feet, Allen tossed him back like a rag doll, getting the angles he needed all day. That said, Clemens has Rob Johnson syndrome. The guy doesn't make decisions with the football and he stares down his primary receivers. While the olineman have to block, the quarterback has to get rid of the football in a reasonable amount of time. Clemens looked lost all too often. -X-
Im praying Dbrick and the entire Oline just need a new line coach. IMO a guy who was ranked that highly as a LT prospect ,especially as a pass blocker, cant be this bad.
Is it possible maybe that when Kendall was here, Kendall was helping cover Brick, but now that he's gone Brick is kind of out on an island, or worse, he's helping cover the LG?
Did Brad Smith get much playing time? I wasn't specifically looking for him, but I don't remember hearing his name called once. I thought he was in when they showed Clemens on the sideline, but that was the Washington HB-Option. I saw Wallace Wright and McCareins flashed across the screen once, but can't recall a Smith sighting. Anyone?
