I thought the playcalling down near the goal line yesterday sucked and i wonder if anyone else felt the same - if im not mistaken we were on the 8 yard line with over a minute left and 2 timeouts (if not all 3?). Why why why didnt we run the ball on first or second down or both?? It would have taken time off the clock and potentially caught the ravens d off guard. At least try a screen to washington..
Because the only success they had running the ball all day came when they were down by 17 in the 4th quarter? I thought it was refreshing to see the Jets take multiple shots at the EZ(even if they were dropped) from mid range yesterday rather then trying to dink and dunk their way down there and score as time expired.
I understand your confusion. With Pennington as the QB, it has been a LONG TIME since any of us had seen a properly executed Two-Minute-Drill.
I thought that they could have thrown in a draw or running play down there as well, but it is even harder to run in goaline situations, and we were not very successfull at running yesterday. Plus Kellen did throw another ball to McCairens that should have been caught to tie the game.
The playcalling actually was was flayed out just right. The execution on the other hand was lacking. Should have been tied at least on two pass plays. You just gotta catch those. Kellen did alright. (at the end)

I was wondering about the running at the end also, however I don't think we'd have done squat with 2 rushes into that defense. The Jets rushed for 69 yards on 27 plays yesterday. That's 2.6 yards a carry. With the Raven's defense all bunched up and 8 men in the box the Jets were just going to get stuffed at the line of scrimmage. No, the Jets were best to take their shot at the endzone with what got them in position in the first place. McCareins just does not have good hands. Now Clemens knows. You learn fast in situations like that and he'll never trust McCareins to make a clutch catch again. He may throw at him but he's not going to count on him.
Yeah, McCareins sucked on both those plays. The problem is he was the only one open on both of them. The pick would have just come sooner if Clemens had tried to go to Coles or Cotchery.
Clemens showed he has an arm yesterday. What he also showed and this is really scary is that he has absolutely no awareness of pressure coming. I don't know if that's anything that can be coached either. He either has terrible peripheral vision or couldn't hear the footsteps. The good thing was he managed to hold onto the ball when he nearly got killed.
Couldn't have said it better myself. That was the right playcalling given the way the running game had been stifled. I could see the argument for a screen to Leon to try to gain a few yards, but we didn't run that all day. That might be because Clemens needs to learn to ease up his throws in certain situations, but he will. He's going to be a good one.
On the average QB drop, you only have close to 3 sec to get rid of it. He was pushing it big time. I kept yelling "get rid of it!" A lot of it was due to coverage. He wanted to make a play bad. I'll agree partially but towards the end of the game he was avoiding the sack and was hitting open WR's. Yeah they can create space. And yup his arm creates a threat. He was more confident, albeit due to desparation, but confident to put the ball in tight spots. If they don't have a QB controversy this year, next camp I think is where you'll see a gut check on Pennington. Cause that boy (KC) has an intangible. Definitely a gunslinger. He still has to have a game where he's pressuring the defense from quarter one not quarter four. But that was his first start so we'll see what he does against Miami.
Actually I think he showed the EXACT OPPOSITE. He had great pressure awareness and was able to tuck the ball and protect it a couple times when he was blindside. Plus he moved around in the pocket better than Pennington. I think your post is totally off.
i think qbs really develop that "sense" as time goes on -- thats why rookie qb get killed so often (also b/c they see more blitzes at the beginning of their careers). I think that he did not do a good job of reacting to the blitz -- which came time and time again.
running the ball up the middle twice in a row on 1st and goal from the 10yd line agains the ravens defense was pretty dumb
