With varying degrees of realism, I came up with these 4 scenarios in terms of a Jets mock draft. Three of them involve trades. Curious which one of these would be the preferred outcome. Scenario 1 (no trades) 1. Mario Williams DE (4) 1. Manny Lawson LB (29) 2. Nick Mangold C (35) 3. Ryan O'Callagahn OT (71) 3. Babatunde Oshinowo DT (97) 4. Elvis Dumervil DE/LB 4. Jason Spitz OL Scenario 2 (trade #4 to Detroit for #9 and #42) 1. Winston Justice OT (9) 1. Manny Lawson LB (29) 2. Nick Mangold C (35) 2. Kamerion Wimbley DE/LB (42) 3. Brodie Croyle QB (71) 3. Babatunde Oshinowo DT (97) 4. Julius Jenkins DE 4. Jason Spitz OL Scenario 3 (trade #4 to Denver for #15 and #22) 1. Deangelo Williams RB (15) 1. Manny Lawson LB (22) 1. Nick Mangold C (29) 2. Kaerion Wimbley DE/LB (35) 3. Ryan O'Callaghan OT (71) 3. Babatunde Oshinowo DT (97) 4. Julius Jenkins DE 4. Jason Spitz OL Scenario 4 (trade #4 to Minnesota for #17, #48 and #49) 1. Deangelo Williams RB (17) 1. Manny Lawson LB (29) 2. Nick Mangold C (35) 2. D'Qwell Jackson LB (48) 2. Sinorice Moss WR (48) 3. Ryan O'Callaghan OT (71) 3. Babatunde Oshinowo DT (97) 4. Julius Jenkins DE 4. Jason Spitz OL
I picked the first one because it is the most realistic because the trades have about a 5% chance of happening
Thats tough...neither of the last 3 are very realistic but i would love four (Moss in like the late third!) but I picked my second favorite, one, because it is very real.
I have to say, I would be thrilled with scenario 2,3 or 4. If Tannenbaum gets a tradedown offer, he has to take it. Barring a few minor adjustments, I pick scenario #4... Except mine would look like this (for #4): 1-17- Marcus McNeil OT Auburn 1-29- Manny Lawson DE/OLB NC State 2-35- Nick Mangold C Ohio State 2-48- D'Qwell Jackson ILB Maryland 2-49- Martin Nance WR Miami (Ohio) 3-71- Omar Jacobs QB Bowling Green 3-97- Maurice Drew RB UCLA 4-a - Julius Jenkins DE 4-b - Jason Spitz OL Now THAT would be a great draft/trade, but I doubt that it has any chance of happening....
D'Qwell Jackson is the same exact player as Vilma, he's just not as good in coverage. They both play WILB in the 3-4. We need a run stuffer like Schlegel, or Freddie Roach if we want to replace Hobson. We wouldn't draft Super Mario and Manny Lawson when we have two 3-4 ends and that's really not Mario's position anyway. Pick one to play rushbacker, but not both.
Scenario 4 is probably best in terms of picks (just because of how I value 2nd rounders). Not sure that I totally agree on the players you selected, however.
You should include a Leinart scenario in there. I chose the 1st one though. We have a top 4 pick and I want us to get a top flight player in this draft. If we finish this draft and don't have either D'Brickashaw, Leinart, Williams, or Hawk I will be pretty disappointed.
Mangold must be taken at 29... No way he lasts til 35. So I wouldn't use any of those scenarios because I really want us to take Mangold.
I seriously doubt 3 and 4 have any shot of happening. However in theory I think these are the 4 remotely possibly situations. Was just curious to see which one people preferred the most (if they were all conceivable).
Disregarding the trade scenarios....I like a little of 2 and 3 combined. With #2 my favorite since Croyle is in that group. I like Deangelo Williams, Croyle and Wimbley. I'm not as high on Winston Justice as some people. Lawson amd Wimbley may be a little overkill, similar players in the style of 3-4 linebackers. I really like Wimbley for the Jets, he would be a perfect player for the 3-4, but I doubt he will fall into rd 2. Wimbley's stock is on the rise and may not be available even at #29. At this point, I'd rather draft Wimbley at 29, than Mangold. Draft # 1 is the most realistic, I'm not that fond of Dumervil. Mangold and Spitz are similar......both can play center and guard.....Manigold's strenght is at Center and Spitz is more of a guard, as I said they can play both positions.
