http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft08/news/story?id=3339368 I was really hoping Gholston fell to us. I heard a report a few weeks ago that Miami still wanting to trade the pick, might try and sign a guy before the draft so that the team they trade with (whoever that might be) knows what they are getting into contract wise and don't trade into a holdout. I wonder if this might be what they are trying to do with either guy.
I don't think they're worried about a holdout. Rather, they have the first pick and they don't want to tip their hat as to who they're really looking at. When others aren't sure who you're going to pick it might make them more inclined to trade up if there's one player who is on their "must-have" list.
They are going to see who is the most signable and I would bet that is who they roll with. But they have to roll with the top 5 to, as Kurt said, keep up a smoke screen and not show the hand. Peace! The Mezz
Don't have a link for this so you can take it for what it's worth. I heard on one of the South Florida sports talk shows this morning that the Fins are talking to both the Long's, Gholston, and Harvey.
I believe the first team can negotiate with up to 4 players before the draft, so take that FWIW. They're just covering their bases in case one or more of them asks for insano money and they think they can sign one of the others instead
