It's not just Philly. I-95 just got cut in half at Philadelphia. That's a metric fuckton of trucks that are going to have to reroute somewhere around there and they can't do that in Philly proper because the traffic is already a nightmare. Philly is like Atlanta only it's all 3 lane roads instead of 6. That means somewhere in west NJ and somewhere south of Philly for the detour but finding the right roadway is going to be important. Trucks tear up roads not meant to carry many of them in a hurry. Hopefully they get the overpass rebuilt quickly and the truckers are only dealing with this for a month or two. We did just pass that infrastructure bill a year or two ago and so the funds should be there. They could pass a waiver for the tolls on the NJ Turnpike and have a lot of the truck traffic use that for a month as they are rebuilding. They'd still get revenue from the normal taxation structure on multi-axle vehicles.
This is going to be sick. I drive to Philly a couple times a month for meetings at our HQ and it was already a traffic nightmare. What a mess.
Cant machine what this is going to do to the tpk, Delaware bridge, and other alt routes. What a nightmare.
It's going to be a huge clog in the East Coast Metroplex the likes of which we haven't seen for more than a day or two at a time.
I'm just glad I don't have to cover Philly anymore. There's no good way in or out of there day or night. With I-95 shut temporarily, just pass if at all possible.
Feds and State say that I-95 will be partially operational in 2 weeks. They're going to setup a temporary roadway while building the replacement. 3 lanes of traffic each way including trucks.
There are some things the federal government is really good at. National Parks and Interstate Highways are two that come to mind.
