First, the idiot doesn't want to come to New York back in 1997 when we have the #1 overall pick. Imagine...he and his brother could be the 2 QB's in this town. Second, all the years I root for him to win teams I despise -- Pittsburgh, New England, etc -- he chokes bigtime. Then yesterday, in Week 4, he spikes the ball like a backup QB getting some playing time. He really teed me off more than end-zone celebrations by wide receiveers. Something about it really bugged me. Besides it KO'ing our Jets. "Hey, Peyton....why don't you win a meaningful game in JANUARY before you spike the ball and celebrate, huh?" I still like Archie but his son bugs me.
Archie creeps me out. Have you ever seen a clearer case of a parent living vicariously through his children than Archie and his sons?
The funniest thing was in the pre-game when one of the announcers said, "We are all glad that Peyton could take time out of his busy commerical schedule to be with us today". or something to that affect
Understandable...I think Archie loves his kids. I have no problem with him -- he really had bad luck in the NFL. And he was right if he advised Eli to not goto San Diego. Eli could have found himself wasting 5-10 years there. The coach wasn't chosen by the GM, the GM wasn't chosen by the owner; and the owner isn't in love with the city. I think Archie envisoned Eli getting picked by the Chargers and Schottenheimer being let go in 2-3 years.....then the GM who replaced Butler getting the axe a few years later...then the whole franchise moving in or out of state. Basically, starting over every 2-3 years. No wonder Archie had flashbacks going back 30 years !! It looks like it might not come to that, but 18 months ago it was even more likely. It's still not a great situation over there for a young player looking for 10+ years of stability, IMO.
so you're saying he can't be excited after scoring the Touchdown that puts his team ahead in a close/tough game?? Seriously we have more things to worry about in life/ with the Jets than Peyton Manning spiking a ball after a touchdown
Thats true.. It wasn't like it was a 42-0 game and they scored a later td in the 4th quarter.... he scored a TD after driving his team down the field with 2 minutes left and no Timeouts
i might be wrong here, but didn't peyton skip coming out early because bill parcells wouldn't gaurantee him being the #1 pick?
Not at all....he wanted a 4th year of college. I think Archie was leaning to telling him that the Jets & NY would be a good situation for him. Do you know how much money he would be making in endorsements in NYC? Probably $75 MM a year -- he could play for the NFL minimum and he'd still make triple what he's making in Indy with salary/endorsements.
I'm saying it bugged me....it's Week 4 and he scored a TD to put his team ahead that his team was favored by close to double-digits.
I'm cool with it. It just showed he and his team were struggling to win that game (which they didn't deserve to win any more than we did), and ultimately pulled something out of his a$$. Just as it was uncharacteristic for Manning to spike the ball, it was also uncharacteristic for the Colts to be fighting for their lives so early in the season. We have a lot more to prove, which means it's all going UP from here!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is completly off topic but I am giggling at poster 7 and poster 8 names. It's just that here in Oz you put a Dinger on your Donger if don't want to get your girlfriend pregnant.
You want the Ultimate Peyton Balls in Mouth?? I've rewatched the Game and there was a part when Deirdorff said about Chad and the way he was Forcing them to use Timeouts and Audibling @ the Line and such: (Paraphrasing)"It's Obvious What Chad was doing with all His Time off was Watching Tapes on Peyton and How he Does it". When I heard that I was Like, Dude. Give me a Fkin Break!
he was ready to come out, all they wanted was a committment from parcells that he would take them #1 and he would have come out but BP couldn't fo that and he went back to Ut for his Sr. year.
Yes. Whenever I go clothes shopping for my 5 year old daughter and see mothers buying day-glo colored g strings for pre-pubescent girls.
