https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/how-peyton-manning-swayed-trevor-siemian-to-sign-with-jets First read the above article on Jets website. Then remember that it was Manning who lobbied Jets to hire Gase. Now this is the second time Manning is influencing the Jets decision. Since Jets listened to the guy twice, you think as Jet fans we can petition online for Jets to bring Manning to training camp for say 2-3 weeks to spend time with Darnold? Okay I wasn't serious when I proposed this but one can speculate right? Hoping a Jets PR guy sees this thread and brings to Gase's attention.
The Gase interview I watched today with Simms where Gase goes into the Manning relationship was great. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/03/27/jets-were-shocked-c-j-mosley-hit-the-open-market/
I'd sign up for that in a heartbeat, even if just for a week. In a perfect world, the Jets hire him as QB coach.
I had pipe dream hopes that we could possibly sign him on at some capacity to the coaching staff. I most certainly wouldn't be upset if Manning showed up a few days at camp to whisper in the kids ear, and would be stoked at the possibility of them forming some sort of player-mentor relationship. But if not, I still like that Gase can link minds with a QB like ol' #18.
I would prefer we keep guys with character issues like Manning away from Darnold. Manning's sexual assault while at Tennessee seemed very credible as did his ongoing harassment of the victim not to mention his relationship and friendship with one of the worlds biggest scumbags John Schnatter. I will agree that Manning was one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game but he sounds like an awful human being.
Are you Tom Brady's publicist or something? Peyton Manning is the man and a high character guy. Not to mention one of, if not the greatest QB in NFL history. Hopefully he does come to Training Camp and gives Sam some words of wisdom. I think he will since he went to Gase's Phins camps.
While Manning has the obvious connection to Gase and would certainly be helpful to any QB's development ... the three QBs that remind me the most of Darnold's style of play are Steve Young, Jeff Garcia and Rich Gannon. I'd love to see any of those three get to work with him.
Here's my favorite part of the article: "Manning’s played a role in quarterback Trevor Siemian’s decision to sign with the Green & White." That's because it does not say "the Green & Black & White."
Meh..I want to see Gase develop our QB. That's what he's paid for Peyton as a Coach one day? ...possibly
It's actually a somewhat lop-sided version of the truth. I'll explain later. Right now my dog has to pee.
I think it is becoming increasingly more likely he does come on board to help mentor Darnold. First there are reports he helped Gase choose the Jets. Now he's convincing Siemian to sign here also. Seems he likes what he sees in New York. I would not be shocked at all at this point
