Tanny and Favre apparently had a conversation by phone yesterday.

Just saw it on NBC's Pregame show.

God, I hope he's wrong. WHY THE HELL DOES FAVRE DESERVE SO MUCH TIME??

The message to Favre was that the Jets do not want to pressure him into making a decision. I still don't understand why New York owes Favre anything. He has done N O T H I N G for this city and its fans. This ain't Green Bay Wis-fuckn-consin.

Remember, its PETER KING, he also said that favre was going to the bucs, i think the jets aren't pressuring him, but they probably need some indication by feb. 27th, which is what fat ass is forgetting. Feb 27th is when the new year starts in the NFL and the jets are 14.5-15 milllion over the cap.

If this is true then Ryan is definitely off to a bad start.
How can you win if management is so willingly to work their schedule around a player?

Every Head Coach likes to bring in his own QB. How can this work?

Maybe Ryan doesn't have a lotta say.... remember, it's WOODY that's infatuated with FARVE.... (not to mention his real agenda, PSL's) :shit::up:

Tanny just dropped a couple notches in the "respectability tree". This is horrible news...absolutely horrible.

This could fuck up our draft. Not to mention our cap!

EDIT: Come to think of it....i guess this would mean Brett WILL NOT participate in the OTA's.....fuck, i can't believe this guy. How about being a team player, Brett!

The guy that does the Jets cap site does a good breakdown of how to get well under the cap with Favre still on the roster. I'm not worried about that part.
    http://www.nyjetscap.com/salarycapcuts09.html

Given the fact that it's pretty doable to get under the cap with Favre, IF he's willing to get the surgery (if needed) and commit to the offseason workouts, I want him back. If he does all that, it stands to reason that he'll be better in his second season in the system with the same receivers. Especially if Ryan can get Schotty to commit to the run more.

I saw the report as well.

I wouldn't necessarily call King reliable or unreliable. I'd feel better if this info came from Adam Schefter. We can read way too much into this.

If this is true, this could indicate that the FO isn't sold on Clemens or Ratliff. And perhaps QB options in the draft or free agency doesn't thrill either. But Tanny has been too good at managing the $ to let this hold the team back.

For all we know, they want Favre to take all the time in the world to get comfy at home; heal; then go to him and say..."Brett, we love you. But sayonara". In June.

Or it could mean we are beyond desperate

Or it could be utter bull

From what I have been reading in here and from most of the NY papers it surely sounds like he does not want the surgery and he is not looking forward to cold March Mini camps and training camps. So I am still up in the air if he is coming back.

Oh for sure...I would too. But apparently Favre "doesn't like" the OTA's and/or participating in any other offseason activities. So the question is...why would he all of a sudden have a change of heart for the NYJets....it sounds like Tanny is already bending over the hood of his truck, and letting Favre take him in the ass by giving him "months" to decide on his playing future.

The ONLY REASON i can think of why Tanny is approaching this situation the way he is.....is because of the lack of QB talent in the draft/FA....and his holding his cards for next year's draft. Which to me, would make a lot of sense.

I don't care if he likes it or not. He's 39 and obviously needs it. If he's going to refuse to take care of himself and commit to the team I'd rather go with one of our young guys.

    DEFINITLY!

But if the rumours are true that Tanny is going to give Favre MONTHS to decide....I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get a decision from him till June....or later. Which means...you can forget about Favre participating in ANY of the offseason activities.

So i agree with you.....but i also think Tanny wants to accomadate Favre....in order to squeeze one more season out of him....and then draft a franchise QB in the 2010 draft. Just my opinion. Which really, isn't a bad idea in the grand scheme of things.

MBGreen, I agree with the bending over the truck and taking one for the team by Tanny. But I like many others was stupid enough to by a 75.00 Brett Jersey and I am sure Woody does not want that cash cow to just ride out into the sunset without milking him for one more year.

Yeah I don't like the sound of that at all. If they're going to give him months, I hope they agree to at least have him doing work outs with his personal trainer he had the 3 or 4 seasons prior to coming here.

    Who are the 2010 QB's?

I can honestly say that, after 44 years of rooting for this team, I am hard pressed to come up with more than a few players that have worn the uniform that I dislike more than Favre.

If this is true, then the Jets FO, from new coach all the way up to owner, are imcompetent. By giving Favre "months" you assure that:

$13 million is tied up in cap money, taking the Jets completely out of the FA market

Favre will NOT participate in the OTAs, which means he will not "learn" the offense any better than he did nor endear himself to his teammates.

The special treatment of Favre compared to the rest of the team continues - great for team unity and morale

The Jets go through the draft with no idea what to do at QB

If he comes back, we can look at another mediocre season with no resolution to the QB position and we'll be right back where we are today again next year.

How could anybody not see this coming the minute the team expressed interest in the old washed up egotistical indecisive one????? We are stuck in Favre limbo. Signing Favre was one of the biggest mistakes in Jet history. Not forcing him into a decision by next week makes it twice as bad. Keeping him after he sits around doing nothing and mulling over his future and whether he "feels" like playing again makes the Jets complete fools and ensures a non-playoff season with less hope for the future with no QB. I'm completely disgusted.
