This is from Kings MMQB today. I am sorry, Favre or no Favre, you don't judge fans based on pre-season. He played 10-12 plays for gods sake. King is still a jet hater even if his boy friend is our QB http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/08/17/august/index.html 4. I think I don't want to hear what great fans the Jets have. Not for a long time. That crowd Saturday night was a disgrace. At least half the stadium was empty for Favre's debut in a Jets' uniform. I expressed my amazement to a few fellow scribes Saturday night -- emphasizing that N.Y. traded for an all-time-great quarterback, not a broken-down one -- and they gave varying reasons for the poor turnout. Like it's the middle of vacation month for New Yorkers, and it's a preseason game. Horsefeathers. If you really love your team, and you have season tickets, you should have been at that game unless you were in Tibet. Ridiculous
He's right. I love the Jets. But Jets fans suck. Cheering Pennington's injury? The Tittie-Gate episode? Throwing anybody under the bus who didn't have a good Sunday? Not showing up for the debut of the second greatest quarterback in Jets history? Maybe Eagles fans are worse. But not by much.
I was there. Look, a poster calling people out for throwing others under the bus, but essentially is throwing the collective Jets fan base under the bus by doing so...go figure.
I agree, he was right this time. I was shocked to see how few fans showed up. Preseason or not it was still Favre's first appearance. Hell they sold what, 100,000 jerseys since he got here but can't even fill up the stadium to see him play? Ridiculous.
Sorry season ticket holders have plans and lives just like everyone else. It's not as if they wanted thes tickets they were forced to purchase them. Pre season games are at best bad scrimages. No one should be called out for not attending them. It's bad enough they are forced to purchase them.
But he's right. I even mentioned to my friend when we were leaving to go to the game that we should leave early because I figured the place would be packed. I made numerous comments during the game that I was surprised by how empty it was. Granted that "half-filled stadium" still gave him a pretty loud reception when he came in though.
Oh, please. I was there and it was more than half filled for the first quarter. It was a beautiful day out, the Yankees were playing a day game, and there were so many other options for New Yorkers. Not to mention the ticket prices were OUTRAGEOUS for a preseason game. How dare anyone call our fans disgraceful. We practically fill out that stadium year in and year out, even years that we stink. FU, Peter King.
the problem is that most Jets season ticket holders are Giant fans who couldn't get tickets to their own team...
this aint Green bay people, life doesn't revolve around football pre season games......he played 2 series for goddsakes......i wasn't hiking all the way out there just for that besides preseason games are better to watch at home anyway, much easier to keep track of the many personnel changes
Sometime I feel like some of our fans are "sucky". But I dont consider not showing up to a preseason game to = sucky fans.
That's such BS. It was a preseason game, the man was going to play a series or 2. People act like we have been 4-12 every yera for 20 years. We have had alot of good times, I think the fan base has embraced favre and we had a great crown for a preseason game the other night but more importantly in week 2 and beyond everyone will show up. I can't stand all the shots at the Jets and our fans lately.
Are you kidding me..the guy played in 2 series for a PRE SEASON game. Gimme a break..no way I was going out in that traffic for that. tell peter King to worry about His health (fat bastard)
I would substitute 'many' for 'most', but it's essentially true. As evidenced by the sheer number of Jets tickets sold on Stub Hub the day the Favre trade was announced. BTW, Peter King is a fuckhead.
That's just not true. When we win the building is filled w/ Jet fans, when we have bad teams tickets find their way to opposing fans and that also happens w/ the Giants as well. When Dallas had those great teams the dalls fans would scoop up tickets and the "Moooossssseeee" calls for daryl Johnston were as loud as they were in Texas Stadium.
