(AP) - Jets quarterback Chad Pennington was excused from practice Thursday for personal reasons and his status for this weekend's preseason game against Washington is uncertain. Coach Eric Mangini said Pennington left because of a family illness. He wouldn't say whether Pennington would travel to Washington with the team Friday or play against the Redskins on Saturday. "I want Chad to make sure he's able to focus on his family and take care of the things he needs to take care of," Mangini said. When asked whether they were preparing to play without Pennington, Mangini said: "We're always preparing for the different contingencies that come up. We'll follow it closely and adjust accordingly as we go." Pennington, coming off a second major shoulder injury, is in a four-way competition for the starting job with Patrick Ramsey, Kellen Clemens and Brooks Bollinger. Though Mangini hasn't announced a starter, Pennington appears to be the favorite to win the job.
No loss- to be honest Chad's game didn't excite me too much last week and I'd rather that Clemens get more reps with the first team in game-time environment, as he'll be the starter by Week 9 (just a gut feeling).
Has anyone been watching Chad in practice this week? If so, does everything appear business as usual for him?
Chad has to handle his business. This is a golden opportunity for Clemens and Bollinger to prove why they should be on the team instead of Ramsey.
All 3 QBs will see time on the field, I'd bet Ramsey gets the most time considering Mangini wanted to see more of him last week and didnt.
I saw Chad practice on Monday... he looked fine. The poor guy... maybe one of his parents are about to pass or something.... and these NY writers will say he's hurt. Pitiful. Geeze.... the NY "press" is an embarassment.
Hope everything is ok with Chad and his family. At least this is one less week we all have to cringe everytime someone on the defensive line penetrates our o-line!
