Thank god. The last thing we needed was blowing our whole draft on one RB. Now we either get D'Brick or Leinart, or whoever else Tangini has at the top of their board.

Just pre-draft BS (can we swear on this BB?), trying to lure other teams to offer more!

Smokescreen city, boys. Why does the coach of the team picking #2 get on the radio to say this when the draft is minutes away? If they're taking Bush at #2, then why announce it to the world. Make the pick, and move on to figuring out your 2nd Rd. This isn't over. Mark my words. But I'm not saying I want to send a king's ransom to NO for Bush.

    Why can't you register?

Coach Payton - I picked up a minute in....

Payton: Watched a lot of tape on USC re Bush & Leinart, definitely top player on board. We're picking Bush.

Kind of guy that you want in terms of character, work ethic, talent.

Q Will you stay on clock for 15 mins? Payton - We'll listen and be smart about it, and do what's best for the organization.

Q Hokie - BPA? Payton - sometimes there's a clear separation, and it's been a long time since I've seen a player like this. Bush reminds me a lot of Faulk, from time at SDSU.

Q Were you shocked? Payton - not as much, all have learned that every year there is something. Teams spend time eval players, eye of beholder isn't always the same. Houston has done their homework, as will the teams following us.

Q Were you concerned about Eli Manning/Elway I don't want to play here? Payton - no indication of that. Bush is competitor, anxious to get on with pro career, has great personality. Bush will be excited.

Q Can he line up with Mcalister? Payton - can end up in multiple packages. Can catch the ball. As offense puts package togehter, there's a lot of different routes to go with he and Deuce. Mentions Lendale going day 1. Wear and tear is a big factor in NFL, but he is someone who can change the dynamics of the game and field position

    Q. You must be ecstatic, your first time in this position, to have this fall? Payton - Excited to be 2 to pick a great player, but a lot of work to make sure we're not picking this high in future years. Begun to address some needs in FA, will address other needs as they come

    Q. How much interest before in 2? Payton - hard to say that 3 teams were interested in selection. With Mario signed, we're sure there will be some interest in this pick.

    Q. Bush a tough sign? Easier at 2? Payton - tough, challenging for both sides. A player like Reggie's gears have shifted. When it comes to contract, always difficult with high draft picks. Not much predictability.

Q No 3rd round pick. Any chance? Payton - always that possibility.

That's a wrap, kept him overtime. Phone kept ringing

    Rick Reiprish

What have you seen in bush? RR ? We?re going to explore all of our options (laughter) Reggie is outstanding, exceptional, great RB, outstanding receiver. Gives you so many options with ability, defenses have to scheme to try to take care of this guy. Add RBs and WRs we have, lots of options. Also PR & KR. We feel that one of the top players coming out in 4-5 years.

Hokie ? he shows up all over the field. Easy to pick real good ones and real bad ones. RR ? scouting Vatech vs USC. On field before game, speaking with Off Cord for USC, discussing other players. Off Cord says you have to watch #5, he?s a freshman, but unbelieveable. He?s really something, even can se it on High School film.

Hokie ? he has to be accounted for on every snap (RR trying to respond, hokie blabbing) RR ? can?t say you?re gonna put a linebacker on him. Payton already smiling, scheming on what you can do

Henderson ? looking for comparisons, Marshall Faulk? RR ? good comparison. Very similar, some Barry Sanders ability, maybe not as powerful. All the things you look for in great RB.

Henderson ? how much easier does this make things in the war room? RR ? lots of scenarios, you have to say you don?t want to drop below a certain level. It?s a numbers thing. If you like 4 players, think you have to get one of those 4, you can trade back to 5 or 6, but not 7, 8, or 9. If you?re sitting there at 10 and like 8, how do you get up? Been through scenarios, but never felt Bush would be there.

Hokie ? Even if no Bush, had to be comfortable at 2. Rambling. RR ? you?ve been around pro football enough, know every year there are 4-5 really good players. This year, 3 outstanding players. Other great players (Brick, Davis) (Hawk, Williams, Bush Franchise players) No linebacker like Hawk since Urlacher.

    Commercial break, I gotta go.

And the Marlins recently called the Mets about trading for David Wright, expressing interest doesn't mean anything

They were in "serious talks" and the Jets want Bush. Seems like you're the one in denial.
