http://www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines.aspx?sport=NFL&hl=174689 they should be able to get a couple first rounders from the raiders
I love it. Money buys happiness. This is happening to several NFL teams. Jets - Revis, Colts - Wayne, Pats - Mankins, etc. The business side of sports.
From rotoworld: The Patriots' mystique is wearing off. Good players aren't willing to take the "Patriot Discount" anymore. Imagine how Tom Brady's contract negotiation will play out after a year behind a Mankins-less line. Bill B's in deep Barney!
Top 5 money isn't a discount. This guy wants to be top paid. Mankins is gonna lose in this game. He'd be better off signing the tender, and moving along next year. Now they'll plug someone else in (he's a great guard, but guards are replaceable), and he'll lose service time and any leverage moving forward. Imagine what your stud center is gonna want. Revis already wants to be #1 paid at his position.... he isn't looking to take any hometown discount.
Oh, I completely agree. But gone are the days when excellent players signed for less than their value because they could play for the Patriots.
That was only when the Pats were consistently winning it all every year. Now that they are not, who would want to play for a dick like BB for a sub par contract? The players got their rings, time to cash in!!!
At least they waited until they got their ring. I don't know where folks got the idea that somehow players would just play for less to be on the Pats. It's not a new thing for players to leave them over money. Samuel, Law, Givens, Branch, Vinatieri....
