Patriots won't pick up Vince Wilfork's option

Hope nobody gives him a big offer and he comes back, but I think he's worth $5 to $6 mil to some team, so I won't get my hopes up. Would be great for a team with a lot of youth on the line. Terrific leader.

 

I'll bet he ends up back with the Pats at a discount when all is said and done.

 

This isn't the first time his contract has come up and he re-signed. A few years ago there were rumors he was going to be released around the time he was injured. As I recalled he threatened to hold out and bitched a lot about it to deaf ears. If healthy there should be a good market for him.

 

He's a player that shouldn't wear another uniform. One of the few class guys in that organization.

 

Wilfork's the only class act in that organization.

they are letting McCourty walk, and showed big Vin the door, to make a major push at Revis.
if they fail to sign Revis, i think they'll try to sign Vince back.

 

Good summation, I agree. This is one of those tough days as a fan. You "get" the whole situation with the salary cap and whatnot, but it still sucks.

I don't think he'll be back. Another team will pay him.

In his farewell type message that he posted on Twitter, he hinted that he'll be going to another team. It sounded like he was apologizing to the fans for that and asking them not to hold that against him, and it sounded like the situation was "we don't want you anymore" rather than "your contract is too expensive." That was my takeaway at least.

Belichick probably told him to retire, and he declined, wanting to play another year or two to earn some more money. He'd rather have done that with New England, but he's being forced to go elsewhere.

He still has value, and he can still play, but it's probably best for him to be in more of a part-time role. As for the Patriots, I don't know if they have someone who can step in and replace him right away, but it seems like they're not worried about losing him.

 

I never really knew much about his off the field life until I read the book about The U. I never cared for Miami or Wilfork because he was a Pat but after reading about how he lost his mother and father at such a young age and went back to school and got his degree for his mother it changed my perspective.

I think it was him that was on his way home from the Super Bowl parade or something and he came upon an overturned SUV and he stopped to help the woman get out of the car, just seems like a good dude and you can tell he loves playing. I just hate the way Collinsworth drools all over him.
