I'm not sure whether to cringe openly here or just hope that he straightens himself out and helps fix their very sucktastic secondary. It's worked before (Corey Dillon, etc) and it's failed too (Haynesworth, etc). I suppose it all depends on what they gave up, which is apparently not known just yet.

    http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/8580848/aqib-talib-traded-new-england-patriots-tampa-bay-buccaneers

The New England Patriots moved to bolster their porous secondary, acquiring cornerback Aqib Talib, who has one game remaining on a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

The Buccaneers announced the trade, completed before Thursday's 4 p.m. deadline, but didn't say what they are receiving in return.

Talib is in the final season of his contract.

The fifth-year pro said in a statement released by the Buccaneers earlier this month that he took an Adderall pill without a prescription "around the beginning of training camp."

Talib was the 20th overall pick in the 2008 draft and was one of Tampa Bay's top defenders with 18 career interceptions.

Talib's current suspension is his second of his NFL career.

The 26-year-old was suspended without pay for the 2010 regular-season opener and also fined one additional game check for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy. That discipline stemmed from an altercation with a St. Petersburg cab driver during training camp in August 2009.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Wow, a team that goes out and addresses a need. Interesting concept.

They probably gave up a conditional pick that will never be more than a 3rd rounder.

Meanwhile we'll sit around, do nothing, and collapse with our pos qb, linebacker holes, rb holes, ol holes, etc. I'm so sick of us not doing anything year after year around the trade deadline.

I'll be happy if they acquire any CB who can actually turn his head and look back toward the QB.

a 4th round pick for a 8 game rental is a major gamble.

Not really. It might be in the case of teams that aren't already deep at many positions, but for the Pats, it's not a biggie. They did get a 7th back.

I don't know if this is a good move, but I had a feeling they were going to get a CB today when they released Moore yesterday. Had no idea who.

If nothing else, this move will have people talking, good and bad.

I guess it's not surprising that BB worked out a deal with Schiano, who he helped get the Bucs job.

No, it's not . They address a need this year while not tying themselves to a volatile person if he goes off kilter again. Great move for their team short term and seeing that Brady is 35 short term is what they need.

As much as I hate those fucks, I have to applaud this move. Even if it doesn't work out, which is fairly likely.

What moves should the Jets make that are going to turn them into SB contenders overnight? It's not like Aaron Rodgers is on the trade block. We need to sit and do nothing and save our picks. We need to actually draft instead of trade up for wastes of roster space like John Connor.

Guy really was a troublemaker with the Bucs. Both on and off the field!

this should be really interesting. 4th round pick is definitely worth the gamble but I honestly can say that I have no clue how this will work out. My best guess will be a Moss comparison...shapes up and flies high for the first year and then shuts it down and gets released.

but...but...there are so many Pro Bowlers around the league that teams are just trying to give away for 7th rounders. the Jets suck for not making those trades happen.

Here's a CB I really liked coming out of college. Yeah, he's a mess waiting to happen, but his talent can not be denied. Solid move by the Pats here. If only the Jets had the guts to address their needs.

    A day later...

This was, IMO, a good move. They're thin on picks next year (no 5th, no 6th, given away in the Haynesworth/Ocho deals) but if Talib's head is on straight, he's probably one of the top 15 CBs in the NFL.

This may allow them to have Talib and Alfonso Dennard start and move McCourty back to safety on a full-time basis. Dennard has show some nice flashes in limited work and could be a keeper.

Either way, they had to do SOMEthing, so it's good to see a name come in instead of a street FA.

if it is simply because of the Jets lack of interest of addressing their needs, please explain the players that are likely available that could help the Jets, but the Jets could obtain without sacrificing what it will actually take to fix this team -- solid draft picks.

you see, there are actual dynamics at play that dictates why deals like this get done beyond a team simply wanting to do so. the Patriots have the luxury of picks to actually trade that will not hurt the team in building with draft picks because the team is pretty good as is right now.

Why is it people think that just because we draft someone they will become a stud or decent for that matter. Go get dwill or j stew instead of picking up another shit bag runningback in the fourth round

nobody has said anything even remotely similar. but there is a huge difference between a team that can trade for a player for only half of a year and risk losing the player and the pick, and a team like the Jets that don't have that luxury.

the Jets are better off drafting a player with the assumption that he will be good, rather than losing a draft pick for next year for a player that may not stay.
