For the record I respect what Pat White had done on the field - even if he did it against my team year after year - but it's far from certain whether or not any NFL team is willing to look at him for that position. One of the things that bothers/worries me about White transitioning into the NFL is his athletic ability. As weird as it sounds I think that's one of the things that could hurt him. His passing ability is well beyond what you'd expect from a college prospect, I can't say otherwise. However, his ability to run could become a problem later in his career. Apart from his arm and his ability to read defenses he does make a lot of great plays with his legs since he is able to move around most defenders with such ease. If he ever becomes self aware of his ability to run it could get him in trouble. One of the things that hurts NFL QBs is their reliance on their athletic abilities to make plays. We have seen this happen in extreme cases with Michael Vick and Vince Young in the more extreme cases but it's also one of the problems that hampered Steve Young early on in his NFL career. College QBs are used to being better athletes on the field than most defenders for their college careers and those who realize their abilities tend to suffer in the NFL. You get guys who wind up coming into the NFL with the ability to make plays with their legs and wind up hurting themselves in the NFL as they tend to look for the running lanes more than looking down field for their receivers, knowing that they have to account for faster and more agile defenders than they had to deal with in college. Steve Young and, recently, McNabb have been able to overcome the burdens of being self-aware of their athleticism and led stellar careers. The question for White is can he tone it back and trust his receivers to make the plays rather than rely on himself to get the job done.
Its well known that PW was a better baseball player in HS than football. He's already been drafted in baseball twice, he didn't sign after the first time and became draft eligible again. I think he's going to end up an outfielder in baseball making millions, not a backup WR in football making thousands. No point in even taking his football future seriously.
Brad Smith is making around $600,000, I figure PW would make around the same as a QB converted to WR.
Pat White=Not a starting QB in the NFL Pat White=Amazing Athlete what that means in the end who knows.
Pat White will unquestionably make it in the NFL. He is certainly now a better football prospect than a baseball one. Watch Miami draft him and put him the Wildcat and make our lives miserable.
Pat White 4-0 in bowl games including 2 BCS games against higher ranked opponents. His height may be a factor at the next level as well as his accuracy but he will make it on the field due to his speed. Pat White is an athlete, a winner and hopefully will have a great NFL career. (yes WVU Grad 2005)
I remember Jack Del Rio being interviewed at the Senior Bowl about Pat White. Del Rio saw White as the next evolution of the Wildcat. Up until now the formation usually has been run with a RB. But Del Rio anticipates teams starting to use their 3rd QB as the Wildcat QB instead of a traditional developmental young guy. He said White (and, by extension, all successful college running QB) could add a whole new dimension to the formation. With a former college QB running the Wildcat plays, the defense now has to respect the pass as much as the run. And that will open up the play a great deal. When asked about running QB's getting hurt in the NFL, Del Rio responded that since it was your 3rd QB, it didn't really matter that much. A coach can't risk his starting or even backup QB to injury. But the 3rd QB can go down without hurting the team that much. According to Del Rio, guys like Pat White are definitely going to be drafted and kept on NFL rosters. How much fun would it be to see the Wisbone or the Option being run successfully in NFL games !
Pat White only wants to be considered a QB, and he didn't have a great Senior Bowl, so that hurts him. Unless he is willing to change positions his chances of being drafted at QB are slim to none. It's up to him
I like the idea of putting Tebow in the wildcat. They both have the athleticism and Tebow definitely has the size/build to take the ball as the runner but most of White's runs came on broken plays where he wasn't getting hit as much and running out of bounds. I'm not sure if White's build would allow him to either 1) take the hits he'll have to take running the ball out of the backfield in the NFL or 2) add the extra bulk that would help him take the hits without sacrificing his speed and agility.
Because the rest of the QBs were so bad. What made him look decent is his ability to scramble. That is why he looked better than the rest of them out there.
Tebow may play FB..that's what a lot of people are saying anyway. No money in that so he may just skip the NFL if that is all he is considered for.
i agree with that, but Tim Tebow is garbage as far as being an NFL prospect. which you already know lol if im a pro director of personnel Tebow would make a nasty FB/H-Back type player. yeah neither one of them will be playing QB in the NFL(someone might chance and draft them as such). but anyone else who thinks so is wrong. so when I'm wrong in saying that come tell me
