Morgan said all the right things since the season ended, but Carolina didn't need him anymore with Jon Beason entrenched in the middle. If Morgan is healthy enough to pass a physical, he could be a nice addition for a team willing to give him a shot. He's currently recovering from Achilles surgery. Wahle, once a big ticket free agent pickup, will either be replaced by Geoff Hangartner or Justin Hartwig. Source: rotoworld.com from Rock Hill Herald I definately think Wahle is worth a look. He's 30, out of Navy and can easily be a stop gap to the problem at LG while we try to find the solution. Thoughts?
Whiny old jackass who tries to swindle the Jets out of money? Why would we want him to step into that role?
How about lockerroom leader and solid veteran presence along a spotty young OL? Contract negotiations don't have any bearing on who somebody is as a player and a teammate
wahle is better than the nothing we have right now but if we do sign a stop gap average vet...i would like a rookie to compete with them because i want depth on the line...because i would hate to have one injury and be back to the bottom of the barrel at OG
a lot of teams will be interested in Wahle. He was great in GB. Much better G than T, though, and Carolina overpaid for him.
Kendall looked aloof all of last season. On JI there was a whole thread of Kendall pics where he looked exasperated as the rest of the offense huddled. I don't get why people are so crazy about Kendall because the LG position sucked this year. He's an old, declining player who was giving the new regime shit while they try to get established in the locker room as well as the league. They held their ground and boo hoo we had a slightly worse season than we might have had. I like that our FO doesn't take shit from anybody, and Kendall chose to be the guy that tested them.
I think Whale would be a good addition as a nice 1-2 year stop gap guy. This of course is only a good option for us if we dont get a young gun at the gaurd spot like Lilja, Bell or Andrews. Morgan would be an interesting addition he is a solid vet, and if he were to recover from his injury he would be great to have in a rotation at MLB with Vilma, and Harris. granted he is not likely to be a guy high on the Jets radar, and most likely neither is Whale.
Wahle must have had a REALLY shitty season because he was a prized pickup for Carolina when he signed... I'd defintely sing him to start in place of Adrien Clarke.. hopefully he comes cheap.
He's definately a guy to consider. He is certainly a potential stop-gap or depth guy while a younger LG waits in the wings.
Associated Press CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers finally ran out of patience with injury-prone linebacker Dan Morgan. The Panthers released their former first-round pick Monday after seven seasons. He was dominant when he played, but was on the field for only 59 out of a possible 112 games. Rex Brown / Getty Images Dan Morgan was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. The Panthers also released veteran Mike Wahle, who started 16 games at left guard last season. The moves were the first of what are expected to be many after consecutive non-winning seasons. Morgan was the No. 11 overall pick by Carolina in the first-round of the 2001 NFL Draft, and wowed coaches and fans with a combination of hard hits and speed. Morgan had 25 tackles in Carolina's loss to New England in the Super Bowl four years ago, and his 452 tackles rank third in team history. Morgan just couldn't stay healthy. He never played all 16 games in a season due to numerous injuries, including at least five concussions. He missed all but one game of the 2006 season after sustaining two concussions in a month. The Panthers brought him back for 2007 only after he agreed to restructure his contract so that his bonus money was based on the number of games he played. Wearing a special mouthpiece and helmet with special padding, Morgan regained his starting position, only to suffer a partial tear in his right Achilles' tendon in Week 3. Morgan eventually underwent surgery and missed the final 13 games. Rookie Jon Beason moved to Morgan's middle linebacker spot and thrived, leading the team in tackles, while making Morgan expendable. "Last year, with the way things went and the emergence of Jon Beason, we felt that it was time to go in another direction," general manager Marty Hurney said. "I can't speak for Dan, but he's looking forward to continuing to play and maybe a change of scenery will be good as well." Morgan's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment. Morgan said the day after the season ended that he wanted to return in 2008, but seemed resigned to his fate in Carolina, wishing reporters well if he didn't see them again. Cutting Morgan and Wahle clears an estimated $6 million in salary space. "These were tough decisions because Dan and Mike have been valuable members of our team and have done everything we have asked of them over the years," coach John Fox said in a statement. "They are both very dedicated to the game of football and earned the respect of everyone who worked with them." He was one of the better LBs to play at and come out of UMiami. Too bad he didnt have any luck avoiding injuries.
exactly my thoughts. Dealing Kendall was a good move. You forgot undersized, thou. I think Carolina has cap issueses and i think they have to work out a deal with peppers, too. They drafted the #1 C last year, and Hartwick shouldn?t have troube to move to G and as many said, Whale had a big contract. I think it?s more of a cap issue than anything else. Whale?s a solid player. But i really hope we sign one of the younger guys, to be set for some time. If we miss out on all the young guys, Whale wouldn?t be a bad pickup, but he should be our plan D, E or F, imo. I?d like to get Morgan here. I think he would fit great next to Harris. If we can get him to sign a 1-year-deal with a low base salary and high bonuses if he starts many games, he?s definitly worth a shot.
sure he is, 95% of the backups in this league are. But when we pick him up instead of one of the younger guys who are at least as good as he is, i?ll be very pissed. Moves like this brought us to where we are now.
