Coles can't get separation and is starting to give up on the team, this is obvious to me. He loves Chad, hates Brett, is really pissed at mgmt for what they did to Chad, and at this point is very fragile and has to participate in a limited fashion in practice all week. Not to mention Brett just looks to Keller and occasionally Cotchery and this lights a fire up his ass even more since he has made it clear the offense should run through him, not some rookie TE.

Cotchery is slow, another possession receiver and a very very cheap version of Greg Jennings who has the speed to run deeper routes.

Have you noticed Favre's passes are all slants and underneath routes, why are there no 20 yard outs? Becaues we don't have the personnel. Favre will occasionally throw a bomb to no one or to the other team but most of his passes are 10 yds or less, no serious vertical threat and its because our receivers are small, slow and can't get separation. Keller is having success because at least he has the bulk to bully his way in the middle.

The times when we do have a downfield pass is when Favre is flushed out of the pocket and makes something up, granted these are great plays they are not how it was drawn up, both the qb and the receivers improvised to make a play. I wish there could be less improvisation and more following the script, oh wait that consist of all short throws to Coles and Cotch or Keller who for the reasons mentioned above never seem to run routes longer than 12 yds.

I hate to admit it but Coles is really the biggest cancer right now, very hard to write as I really really have liked Coles over the years and still do...but he is giving up lately.

the jets VERY FOOLISHLY guaranteed Coles' contract for 2008 AND 2009 before this season--Coles wouldn't shut up about an extension so they guarenteed the money--stupid--the three guys who really stink this year (Coles, Thomas, and Gholston) would be real drains on our salary cap to move--future looks bright, doesn't it?

There are 2-3 other threads on the same subject with nearly the same title on the front page

Each 1 gets better and better. The NYJETS bring in a GUNSLINGER in Favre and dont have the ammunition for him to do his thing.PATHETIC on the coaching staff and GM.

Coles and Cotchery have been absent for 2 games. They have been very good for a number of seasons. Relax, no one was complaining when we beat NE and TENN

Your correct but consistency week after week leads you to bigger and better things in the NFL. 1-2 week wonders do nothing to win a championship.

2 weeks of success mean nothing, but 2 weeks of not contributing and we're throwing in the towel on our WR? He's correct that they are having a good season but none of that matters after wk 13?

You just destroyed your own argument.

Keller won us that game against NE and we ran the ball like mad men against Tenn. Cotch did have one spectacular helmet catch against NE but when the game was on the line Favre went to Keller and on most 3rd downs for that matter.

This past week SF took away Keller and made sure they did putting their best LB on him....and even said they were not scared of our WRs and they were right, our WRs did jack all game and Keller was neutralized.

Look, I do think they are poor route runners... but beyond that...

The play calling is also not going over 10 yard slants, outs, and comebacks. Seriously, they each had one catch for like 5 yards last game? Wher ethe hell is the playcalling?

Also, move that damn pocket already. Every other team does it.

Like i said, they had 2 shitty games. But they have been great for 2 and a half seasons! 2 bad games doesn't mean they suck. They are both possession receivers, and very good ones at that. Coles is getting up there in age but is still effective. Leon Washington didn't have a great game either, but are we throwing him under the bus? This is ridiculous. Thomas Jones only got 10 carries and Leon got 3 touches, do you think maybe its the playcalling and not the players?

Donald Driver is a possession WR. Of course, so is Mushid Muhammed, and i'll give it to you that they are both better then him.

Posession WR's, however, have success due to 2 things.

    1. Lots of short pass plays.
    2. SOlid route running.

It seems all there success if because of point 1. That really handcuffs any offense.

As for "great for 2 and half seasons", yeah, i'm sure they never had any bad games during that stretch either, right? As for not throwing Leon under the bus... He had what, 2, maybe 3 touches on offense?

I'm sorry, but what? That's like trying to throwing TJ under the bus, who had 8 touches. That is a pretty shitty gameplan, if you ask me.

No i'm not throwing Leon or TJ under the bus. Just making the comparison that people are overreacting. Just like Leon had 2-3 touches and Jones had 10 carries, Cotch/Coles only got thrown to a few times. They play calling is not putting the ball in the hands of the people who usually make plays for this offense. How many times did Favre throw to Coles or Cotchery? And throughout the past 2-3 seasons, Cotchery has not had many bad games and never has had a problem getting open, i would say the last few games have by far been his worst.

My liking of Coles has been dropping dramatically.. beginning when we acquired Favre.

He did nothing but complain about how his best friend (Pennington) was gone blah blah... Coles always talks about how football is a business (and uses the business side to get paid), but he sure doesn't act like a professional sometimes. Say Favre retires next year, do we really need to burden whichever young QB gets the job with such a manic-depressive WR?

In my opinion, there are a lot of better #1 WR out there, and maybe two or three who are #2 on their teams. While I think Cotch is one of the best #2 WR in the league, he isn't fast enough for the #1. So in my off season, Coles is gone next year and we either use a #1 on a talented WR and just deal with the rookie bumps, or we sign a potential free agent.

Coles never complained about Penny leaving, not even once. Said a lot of good things about Favre, said its great to play with a HOFer, etc., etc.. Everyone involved with the team says they get along great.

Jeez....man the Jets won 5 games in a row, not one or two.

These threads are really starting to go downhill.

And I hate to say what the answer is but I will.

Coles may be gone after the season, and Chad Johnson will replace him.

Laugh if you want, but it is possible. Plus if Chad were to come here, I am going to go out on a limb and say Favre comes back.

So 3 bad decisions rolled into one? And here I was, once again thinking I couldn't wait till next year.

Coles also had a concussoin mid season. I think that is a factor.
