just a thought… i remember in 2010…we had revis locked in at one spot and we traded for cro…a few months away we drafted kyle wilson who was regarded at the #2 cb prospect that year.. a. rex knew he would have 3 corners at is disposal for that year b. at that time cro was on a 1 year deal c. i think they figured the issues revis was going to be a problem to keep and wilson was a option with cro now. in 2012 when revis was hurt.. cro and wilson did a great job.. now..could this be kyle wilson hance to be a starter… there are a lot of hate on here for what ever reason..PLEASE FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW AND ARE JUST GOING TO SAY KYLE WILSON SUCK FOR NO REASON DONT UNLESS YOU HAVE A LEGIT FACT WHY HE DOES…
I would try and get Cro back. if that doesn't pan out I would start Milliner and Wilson/Walls then draft a corner in the third like Stanley Jean-Baptiste.
If he's the plan, I don't like the hypothesis. I'd have him as a Wilson replacement, not as our main CB.
Kyle Wilson 7 straight penalties on 7 straight plays could be a reason. But seriously I like Kyle a lot in the slot. He hasn't proved anything as an outside corner and yes he has had plenty of chances. Captain Munerlyn is just like Wilson but a little better at it. I'd say Cro will be back.
we will go after dominique rogers cromartie i think PFF ranked him as the 4th best cover corner. he's a great value
If we get a week or two out and he hasn't signed anywhere DRC's price will drop. When he becomes a bargain is when you can expect the Jets to make a move on him.
I don't think it's out of the question that Rex views Milliner as the guy who's going to be his stud #1 CB this year. He was always very high on him and he really turned it on the last 3rd of his rookie season. Point being - I wouldn't be surprised if we're bargain shopping for decent, rather than great, CB's to fill the #2 or #3 role.
While you may be right about Rex's views here, it remains risky in the short run. That's why I am changing my view on Cro. My antipathy to going first round pick for Cb is not merely because of Wilson and Milliner, but also because (obviously) the Jets need help on O, and are not going to fill half of them in FA. They also have not and will not be able to fill the slot at Cb for the medium term in FA. So it is best to go back to Cromartie in the short run. He knows the system, and is actually a steadying vet presence out there. He will even help Milliner and the safeties, I think. So because they should not go Cb in the draft, and I am not aware of any FA prospects other than Cro (is Rodgers-Cromartie really better?), Cromartie is the answer.
There was a rumor the Jets had a handshake agreement with a FA corner. Maybe that FA corner was Antonio Cromartie. He gets released to test the FA market and Jets agree to match his best offer. Possible. Probable?
We better have a plan at CB.. Last year our secondary was an embarrassment and we've done nothing but downgrade the position so far. Get me Captain, DRC, or bring Cro back and I'd be ok with our CB position but the secondary could really use another safety too.
This is what I've been thinking, too. It's time for Rex to demonstrate an ability to construct a top tier Defense without constantly pouring valuable resources into the acquisition of blue-chip CBs.
